Question about oil of all things.

Well I tracked down an oil leak on my bike last night, here's it's my oil filter that's leaking. Good news. So I guess I'll just do an oil change over the winter to get ready for next riding season.

That brings me to my question. What are you guys using for oil in your bikes? I know these things share oil between both the engine and the trans, so I don't think I can just go ahead and put regular Castrol GTX in. I don't need super grade racing oil, something that will perform well for a street bike that gets ridden often is good enough.

Also, kind of random, but brake fluid is brake fluid right? No special stuff for bikes?

Amsoil Motorcycle oil should be good enough, i think there is more additives and stuff in motorcycle oil than regular car oil? im no expert though

as far as brake fluid, just whatever it calls for...

Any oil that can be used as both an engine oil and trans oil, my quad has a wet sump clutch, and it shares the engine oil and trans oil too.

Pretty much all the motard people I know all rotella. I even run it in my car. One kid claims he even saw a increase in MPG. I just know that **** has great dilution protection. I'm pretty sure the new synthetic is even cat friendly now (Even though it's considered diesel oil)

just make sure it meets what the bike calls for and dont use regular car oil it has additive for less friction which will kill a wet clutch

This is the same stuff you can find at Walmart and Pepboys right? Not a different blend that you have to find elsewhere?

Yeap, I use Rotella as well. Looks like this -

Can't miss it. Make sure you get this stuff and not the other stuff (it all reads very similar). IIRC (when I was reading the bottle) the other stuff has detergents in it.

I'm running Motul in my bike right now. No complaints here.

Rotella T is the best oil to run in these things i heard I run it in all my quads and my truck. I personally think my quad engine runs a lot smoother than the expensive polaris oil they wanted me to run.
