So I went out for dinner tonight with my mom to celebrate my birthday... we get to the restartuant and we both order a beer. No surprise I get carded, so when I go into my wallet, I realize that I left my license in my snowboarding pants and only thing I have on me is my LTCF. Thinking that it wouldn't be a problem, I hand her the card and explain what it was and how you have to be at least 21 to get it. After stairing blankly at the card, she turns me down. Again, I explain what it was, but she still says no. I then requested to speak to the manager on duty, hoping that they have a little more common sense.. The manager comes over, and I explain the situtation... I tell her that although I don't have my drivers license, my license to carry a firearm is a STATE ISSUED identification card and that it has not only my PICTURE on it, but my DATE OF BIRTH as well. I also explained that if she is concerned, she can CALL the sherrifs office to confirm the validity of my license...

Despite all of the explanation, this broad says that I would need to present her with my drivers license or my passport to validate my LTCF and that it is not a legal form of proof of age... WTF

I was wondering about this because recently my DL cracked in half and was going out to the bar that night and was like ahh ill probably be cool it still could scan it was just split in half connected by just the holograph, and was thinking my LTCF is a backup if i need because its a state issued idea right?

Needless to say i went out and got a new DL, to avoid trying to use it for something like that...

p.s. Dave hatch is for sale *cough*

Technically they have the right to turn down whomever they want if they feel that it may compromise their license to serve alcohol.

From a legal standpoint however, you said everything you could of. You are absolutely correct that it is state issued ID and is valid as proof of ID.

If anything, this should prove even more that you are 21, you can't even get the damn thing if your under 21...

Should have laid your pistol on the table as well and said "does this prove I'm old enough?!?!"

Obviously my above statement is a complete joke. But if you're crazy enough to try it please make sure someone is capturing the moment on video for the rest of us.

^ YES! haha

I use my LTCF as my ID all the time. Most recently because I haven't had any time to renew my driver's license. I've had a few people give me crap about it and it annoys the sh*t out of me. I had one woman at Walmart give me a hard time about it because I left my wallet in the car (with DL) and only had my LTCF on me. She is a real problem all the time about everything. Everyone I know has had a run-in with her at one time or another. We call her "Super Cashier"... complete bitch.

She 'carded' me for buying keyboard cleaner 'air in a can'. Yup... Air in a f***ing can. She said "This means nothing to me. I need a Driver's License or else you can't buy the air. What is this anyway? I need Govt. issued ID, not a 'gun card'. This says Sheriff of Berks County on it... you need to show me something that is actually Govt. issued. By the way, I really hope you don't have a gun or else I'll call the police. You gun people are crazy." I've had problems with her before and she was being a c*nt so I decided to have some fun.

I laughed in her face and said "First of all, what part of "Government issued ID" is so difficult to understand? The Sheriff of Berks is a public servant for the County of Berks, which is a Govt. entity within the Commonwealth of PA. How much more 'Government' does it get? Second, I DO have a gun with me, and I just showed you my license to carry it legally. In addition, Walmart's corporate policy specifically states that they follow the letter of local law when it comes to customers carrying weapons in the store. In other words, I've already been 'OKed' by Walmart to carry in this store. If you call the police and report me for doing something perfectly legal, I'll file charges of harassment against you. Get your manager."

By "...get your manager." she looked like this --

She left and got her manager, who came back and listened to her explain the situation like she was safeguarding the f***ing nation or something by not letting me have canned air without showing ID... like it was a bottle of 151 that she just stopped me from buying for a 10 year old kid waiting outside.

The manager just looked at her like she just threw a puppy into traffic and said "Get this guy rung up now." He took me aside and apologized profusely and gave me a $20 gift card. All over some freakin air in a can.

I've had other people give me crap about it too but that was the funniest.

LOL! Do it, they really can't stop you, because for 1 open-carry is completely legal without any license (which is awesome) and 2 because you want to. Second point is really the most important lol if you want to open -carry there do it.

Though... are you allowed in a restaurant that serves alcohol, because by my understanding bars you are not allowed to carry.

Well the best part is that I'm in Vermont and they don't even require a person to have a license to conceal, so open carry is completely allowed! And when I walked in tonight, I didn't see any signs that mentioned patrons not being allowed to possess firearms in the building.

Only reason I ask is because at least in PA regardless of if a sign is posted or not, I don't think carrying is allowed at all in bars.

My friend specifically also told me not to.

BTW this is a random unrelated to what we are talking about: (Show your support)
Information and links including a nice link in case you get wrongfully harassed for carrying a weapon even with a valid license.

Well, that just disproved that. Power to the people haha

THIS However may be the dumbest thing I have ever heard
Quote:
In Virginia, you CANNOT carry CONCEALED in any establishment that serves alcohol, but you CAN carry OPEN CARRY in same. (The legislature has changed that twice, but the Governor has vetoed it.)
So basically, being around a bunch of possible drunks who may be impulsive I can have my gun open for grabs..

They can easily stop you. It's private property. OC is legal in PA only because there's no law against it. The same goes for wearing a giant chicken suit. Legal, but if the owner or spokesperson for the owner of a property wants you to leave because they have a no chicken suit policy, you must leave. OC is no different. If they ask (*tell) you to leave, you must go or else you are trespassing.

In my earlier example of Walmart shenanigans, I would have still had to leave if the manager told me to, but later on a call to WM's corporate people would easily remedy that situation. The manager would probably have his ass handed to him for kicking out a customer against corporate policy.

And, as you guys already found out, it is definitely ok to carry in bars in PA. In fact, if there's one place I won't go without carrying, it's a bar of any kind. I can name a few bars I've walked up to only to turn right back around when I saw that they were patting/wanding people at the door. If a business owner decides to pat down it's patrons, it's no place I want to visit. It must be a hell of a rough crowd if they feel the need to 'make it safe' by checking for weapons.

@DC2.2GSR What about concealed. Obviously if you conceal properly they will never no or see it, but what if they do see it? I guess they can kick you out?
