Has anyone else toyed with the idea of buying a house that was in an "AS-IS" condition, knocking it down, and building up a new one? There's starting to become many around here like that since no one can seem to upkeep on their house forcing them to get out. They are usually on the market for months and months.

Do some research on permits first. Example, our house is nearly 200 years old but if we were to knock it down and rebuild we couldn't because 'new' laws say the house has to be X feet off the property line. We would literally have to move the whole house over.

I have no experience with a knock down and rebuild.

I have taken part in 4 complete house rebuilds where the interior of the house was torn down to the floors and walls. Then after that everything was re-built with new everything. Here are 2 things you can count on if thats what you plan. 1. The job will take 3-4 months longer than you anticipate. 2. It will cost at least 20% more than you think.
