Thanks guys but its a 95 eg hatch with a b18b1 engine in it. i was told the car was a dx but if you look at it it's an eg but enough about that. I want to put vtec in the engine but i have little knowledge when it comes to it. I will admit me+motors+messing with them=BOOOOMMMMM!!! haha i know i have to get a b16 head and get the vtec kit but i have no one to give me advice on it or anything. i have a bunch of friends that are very into civics but they are all arse's and don't want me to have a nicer car...(good friend huh). so what im asking is just advice and a little walk through. if anyone is interested in working with me to do it that could be another possibility. I also admit i don't know much about working with engines aka thats why they go boom lol.

I would stick with the non vtec until you get the feel of the car. Just in case you blow the motor. It'd be better to blow this one rather than after you swap it.

You want LS/VTEC? That is what is sounds like you are saying. The best thing you can do is research your a$$ off. There are numerous threads on H-T on how to build a reliable LS/VTEC motor. Go for it. How much money do you have to play with, and how much power are you looking for when all said and done?
If your friends don't at least encourage you to go for your goals, then get new friends. Quote:

Also, depending on how good the B18b1 is, you could turbo it. You could go a ton of different ways, what are you really looking to put together? Drag car? Autocross? Just a fun daily? I would start by figuring out what you are building and then work on getting there.

Putting vtec on to a non vtec car is pointless and a waste of money IMO. swap in a vtec engine. You have alot of research to do, I grew up on honda's until mine got stolen now i can care less about them. P.M me if you have any questions or whatever, I'd be glad to help. I'm a sucker for eg hatches btw

Wait.... out of curiosity, is that your blue RX-7 in your avi? i'm to assume this Civic is just for a Daily, You'll want to hold off on wanting to do a swap of any sort. When you get a feel for the car and decide you really want to go through with some swap - then look into the many options. Nearly any 4cyl honda engine can be tossed in, with the exception of the F series in the S2000... that would require a good bit more work to do.
If you are set on a swap, an H22a is always a good choice. (jdm prelude engine) not the H22a4 which is the US version. It's heavy but for a swap it's good. Or go boost and do a G23 ![]() |

If its already got the B18B1 an lsvtec is an easy way to go, and as hybrid motors go from personal experience with my own lsv, they can be VERY reliable and also very quick. However don't expect to get great traction out of an lsv because the B18B1 bottom end has the highest rod angularity out of the B-series motors which makes it a champ for low-end torque, but a bitch to get traction with.
But as other people said there are PLENTY of options as motor swaps go, it all comes down to how much time and money you want to put into the car. Good luck with the purchase if you still want to pursue it. |

Well if the car has an LS/Vtec swap like you say, there's a 99.99% chance that it was converted from OBDII to OBDI which means if you plug into the OBDII test, no you will not pass. But if you take it to a shop with a dyno, and have them perform an OBDI emissions test, as long as it has the cat, etc. and isn't running pig rich or anything, it will pass. As long as it is up to all the safety standards that is.
