AEM water/meth injection failsafe / gauge

Not sure if you guys that run meth noticed this, but AEM released it this fall. This is different then their old gauge. I just finished installing it and basically it will tell you not only if you have a blockage, but if there's a leak as well. Connects via USB, switchable gauge faces (before you chose the 500 or 1000cc versions), built in datalogger etc etc...

Switchable faces/scales:
Colors are custimizeable via software/usb cable

Sensor:

Installed. Not symmetrical because I'll be moving the wideband on the left later.

You set both upper and lower limits for the alarm. If the upper limit is exceeded you have a leak--if the lower is then it is a blockage. Since the sensor is right by the nozzle it is a true indication of flow.

The reason its a failsafe and not just a gauge is the fact that it has two outputs that could be used to either trigger a solenoid to bypass the boost controller and reduce boost, or connect to a piggyback/EMS to switch maps. Basically you don't have to worry about your meth/water failing and grenading your motor, since it will automatically retard timing or kill boost before damage occurs if wired in that way.

After playing with it for a while I was able to set it up so I had 150 cc of flow at low boost, 300 at high boost, and max at 400 in case I boost creep. Before I was spraying blindly basically 400 from 5 psi ON. So in that sense I gained a few HP from a more optimal flow progression.

i have aem kit and was looking at the gauge. can u run a mbc with this? also how does it get wired into so it would retard the timing or kill the boost?

Is this just a gauge, or will it actually make adjustments to the meth injection if it detects a problem?

If you use an MBC you take a 12v output from the gauge, run it to a solenoid, and ground the solenoid to the chassis (preferably use a relay in case of higher than 1.5a current draw)

Then have the solenoid bypass the boost controller when activated. There are some boost controllers that allow you to have an input as well (such as for gear specific boost). You can then use that to vary the boost level should the alarm condition be triggered.

You have to either wire in the solenoid as above, or connect it to your ECU (if compatible) so it can switch the maps. Every setup is different so the implementation will vary depending on that.

For example, the AEM EMS has capability to switch maps based on input, you can wire in to that. Same for megasquirt. XEDE (piggy back) can switch maps based on that as well. So you just feed them the input and program the failsafe map. If you have a stock ECU like I do, and many others who flash the stock ECU, you can do the solenoid trick for next to nothing, or get a fancy EBC that can do multiple boost maps and switch the boost based on the input.

Sorry to bug you with tech questions...
I run a Hallman MBC & use a TurboXS Utec Delta management system.
Could you let me know if it says anywhere in the directions if this gauge will "Talk" to a Utec?
A gear specific EBC sounds cool..... but I want to keep things as simple as possible.
I've been avoiding adding a meth kit because I'm terrified that some little gremlin will pop up and I'll wind up with another blown motor.... once was already too many times LOL.

I'm not terribly familiar with the utec by if it has switchable maps, then the failsafe output can take place of a manual switch to activate it. My understanding is the utec does have this. So you shouldn't need an expensive ebc.

Not sure yet, more likely than not but it depends on what happens the next two days so I won't know for sure till saturday.

AEM water/meth injection failsafe / gauge

Thanks!
I'm going to contact AEM tech support & TurboXS to see what's needed to make them work together.
