Lets see your entertainment center.
The chest has all the wires and power supplies in it so it's easy to tuck everything away. Xbox has been covered in a wood vener the white box was bothering me. Receiver, cable box and popcorn hour are obviously under the chest. Not perfect but pretty clean. Couple of my car painting, maserati birdcage, lotus formula car. Painting on top is from a famous still life painter from england. Urns are from 1880 and made by Royal Vienna, Chest is dated to 1875. Blue vase is date 1906 Barvaria. Chairs are cheap ghetto chairs covering up my krk rokit speakers. Got my pepboys bucket on the balcony to finish it off.

I used to have a HTPC but the popcorn hour does what I want without to much fiddling. Back in the 2000 I had 3 computers, one for scaling, one for htpc and one server. Glad those days are over. |

There are three speakers in this pic -- one on the mantle beneath the TV, one on the top shelf of each recessed shelving area on either side of the TV. There are two more speakers mounted in the back corners of the ceiling in the room, and a subwoofer behind the couch.
Pic taken standing just behind the couch. Yes, I was watching Golden Girls. ![]()

Also I keep hearing that the chinesse amps are pretty good, you just have to swap out the tube with some good russian ones and you got a nice setup for $3k. |

Your pup sitting on the floor watching tv is so freakin cute.
![]() 40" Samsung series 6 1080p 120hz Crappy Sony 5.1 surround sound but the center/back channels don't work. But hey, it was free HD DVR Sont PS3 Microsoft Xbox 360 Nintendo Wii Cable modem/wireless router set up is behind the tv out of sight. Nothing too particularly impressive electronics really, but i wanted to show off the entertainment center itself. It was designed/built by myself. When i designed it i still lived at home and tv's were still ridiculously expensive so i only made it big enough to fit a a 37" screen at the time. As technology got smaller the surrounds on tv's got smaller and i squeezed a 40" one in there with maybe 3/4" to spare. Of course prices kept going down and i could've gotten a 46" plasma for several hundred less than what i bought When it comes time i'll move this into my office and design a new unit for the living room.Another pic that didn't get so washed out to show the color better. It's made of red oak. ![]() Anybody have a suggestion on a self contained surround sound set up? It needs to be at least 5.1 surround but id prefer 7.1 and if it had an upconverting dvd or blu ray player Last edited by 90blacktsiawd; 09-21-2010 at 02:38 PM. |

I am gonna get slammed for this but I find 5.1 and 7.1 highly overrated. Unless you have a room dedicated to 5.1 it sounds terrible. 9 times out of 10 it's setup wrong and it's done with the cheapest speakers people can find. It gives me a headache. Get yourself 2 good loudspeakers and call it a day. Hard to screw up and sounds great. Just my 2 cents |

The truth is, when properly set up, rear channel speakers in a 5.1 rarely get used, but they add a hell of a lot to the experience. However, if you want a 7.1, I agree. For the majority of rooms, it's a waste. Unless you have a professionally set up, dedicated theater room, they just aren't worth it. If you are up to that point, then it certainly won't hurt to spend a bit more on the 7.1 over 5.1 setup. Back to your logic of just getting front l/r, for music stereo setup, sure. I absolutely agree. But for a home theater setup, your center channel gets the majority of the workout. I have played around with my speakers going from 2.1 with a phantom center to 3.1 and 2.1 just sounds flat. I guess if I didn't have a center to compare it to, I wouldn't know the difference though. If you ever want to expand your system to get the most immersible experience, you need to match your speakers to the center channel and go from there. Start with a 3.1 setup and add the rear channels to match. The system absolutely NEEDS to match to give you the most enjoyment. For the rare usage of the rear channel, you are better maxing out the receiver, then 3.1 setup, then saving for the rear channel. Last edited by ITSTOCK; 09-21-2010 at 05:48 PM. |
