BMX Bikes
i've done my research, Im just coming here to get opinions, because i know there are people on here that ride. the jdmtyler#### kids definitely does. so id like some input. I know there is racing bmx, freestyle bmx, and jumping bmx bikes. Im leaning towards a freestyle/jumping bike. i would mostly ride on the streets, around the city, jumping stair cases/ Ramps and hitting up Fairmont park to try out the skate park. Im no pro, so im not saying i will be going all crazy like the dave mirra, but these are thing i have in mind, so i would like a bike that could handle this. what im looking for: Freestyle BMX bike with the ability to handle stair jumps and ramps relatively light frame for the ability to get some legit air, but want it to be strong enough to take the landings of that. thanks in advance to any replys. at your height you would want atleast a 20.75 toptube to be comfortable. may want to look into the fit completes for the price they sell for theyre pretty good or a verde or any good complete check out danscomp.a complete is a better route then building a complete custom bike like mine has well over a $1000 into it.

You'll be fine on a 20" at your height and weight, just look for a 20.75- 21" top tube length and try that first; you may feel more comfortable on that. For jumping, you're probably going to want bigger bars. Brakes are going to play a big part in your decision, too because alot of street guys aren't running them. I've dirt jumped without them before, and yeah, it's scary as ****. I built my own bike around an S&M Strickerframe which is a realitively light dirt frame and just went from there.
For what it costs to buy a half decent kit bike these days, you'd be better off just building your own. It's pretty straight forward and with the advent of internal headsets, very little is going to need to be pressed, unless you go with a Spanish BB. Fit completes are pretty dope, though. So are 2hips. I'd say start with looking through frames at danscomp.com and deciding on which appeals to you. After, that, for streetablilty's sake, go with a 30/11 gearing with cassette hub (just buy preassembled wheels, way easier on yourself), a 3piece crank (I run Profiles because they're awesome, and american made), plastic S&M Stricker pedals, and a set of bars with a pretty big rise.

ya a full custom is way to go but if buy all the best stuff it adds up to very exensive.when i orignally built my fly pantera even without brakes and all i was over $1000.there are some sick completes nowadays coming with cassettes ad intergrated headsets and all the works for a good price just gotta make decision.

X2 on the Fit completes being cheap and pretty good.
I've got a newer Standard 250-L, but that's more so because I rode a 98ish STA for like 8 years and the 250 has the same geometry. |
