An update to my reply. I went into Apple and had them run diagnostics on it. They swapped out my unit no questions asked. Apparently newer batches of the phone relocated (slightly) the proximity sensor so you don't hang up on people with your face during calls. Neato!

I used to HATE that when I had my IPhone way back. I'm glad they sort of fixed it

just got mine in today, I LOVE IT! Granted I did have the original iPhone since it came out so I was a little overdue for an upgrade. It's so fast and the multi tasking is so helpful. Definitely keeping this one for a few years until another one "Changes Everything. Again."

3G owners: I DO NOT recommend updating to the new 4.0 OS. It has new features but it makes the phone run incredibly slow and glitchy, and you can't restore it back to the latest 3.1.3 update.

my gf Michelle has had no issues other than the annoying task of having to close the background apps after each time you open them. otherwise it draaaainnnsss your battery.

also, I have that case for a 3GS sized phone. got it for like $5 and thought I'd get lucky to fit the new phone when I get it. no dice

I have had nothing but issues with mine. I am on #2 and swapping out for #3 on Wednesday. Data and Cam issues with the first. Now the 2nd one The screen will not shut off when I hold it up to my face so I hang up on everyone. Also the ATT BS that is going on with the upload speed issues is really annoying. Hopefully 3rd time is a charm..

I think all the people that are happy don't have anything to say so you're hearing most of the bad and not much of the good.
I have no complaints with mine, have been enjoying it since day 1. My friends who have them are all in the same boat, I wouldn't hold off on getting it personally.

Cool, glad you chimed in. Im pretty happy with my 3gs, but i am itching to get the new one. I suppose if the new one starts acting up on me, i can swap sims and continue using the 3gs with one of those mini to regular sized sim conversion things.

There are a ton of issues.. I have owned every gen since the first. Apple may have dropped the ball this time. Major issues that I have had with 2 New iPhone 4's

1. Proximity sensor.
- this is a huge issue..Everytime you are on a call and move the phone the screen turns back on and you either hang up, random dial, or what ever else your ear hits. Both my phones did this current ip4 is really bad. I can not get through a call. My screen does not shut off..

2. Antenna
-first phone was worse. Bars would drop real quick and so would the call. 2nd phone have a bumper and it seems to be better..

3. Camera issues
-White balance issues. Either you get a pretty bad yellow hue or you get the green/blue blob.. Here is what mine looks like. No flash indoor pick against something white.
1st phone

2nd phone

4. Heat
-this phone runs alot hotter than prior phones. Some people are even getting overheating warnings and the phone will not do anything for a good 25 mins till it cools down.. I haven't run into this one yet but my phone does get super hot. I think other Gens did this as well just been hearing alot more about it with the IP4

5.

There are also some other random glitches but think they are more OS related.

Now there are also some ATT issues especially with the data network currently. Current iphone users download speedtest.net and while on 3g see what your upload speeds are. Most of us are reporting can not break the 100kbps mark on uploads... When you use the phone alot for data its a pain. I use my iphone for work and email is a major pain with slow uploads..

There are things I do like about the phone. The display is amazing and the battery life is improved..

Now before all the apple fanbois come out of the wood work... I am a huge apple supporter.. This is from my own personal experience and not reading on the net..

Mine has been perfect sice day one.
I have been hoping for a way to keep every app I use from staying open in the drop down screen though.

I got mine on the 29th of June and have been thrilled with it so far. One thing I noticed though.. when I pull the phone away from my face during a call, it seems to take longer to light up the screen. My 3GS screen lit up instantly but it takes a second or two on the new iPhone. Has anybody else noticed this?

Original iPhone commercial redone with iOS4

How much slower has the iPhone become over time with the added features of new firmware upgrades? The original commercial was 28 seconds. How long does it take to do the same tasks now?

they do it on purpose so that you go buy the new phone out of pure frustration. it's been an Apple tactic since day one. pretty much all of my friends have iPhones and they all say the same thing - ever since they downloaded the updates (when the iPhone 4 came out), their phones are almost unusable.
