Yeah, Sean is right. Besides that it's a lot more embarrassing to show up in a race ready car and suck at it, which is why I'm hesitent to even show my face at an AutoX.

I don't get embarassed. Haters can hate. I'd rather learn when my car is done being modified. It's kinda like when I pick up Gran Turismo or Need for Speed after I beat the game or have tons of money. I'll buy a car, fully modify it, and then drive it. Same thing I do in real life apparently.

um, dude, start stock, and change what needs to be done. Just because you have a long shopping list of name brand parts, doesn't mean it'll be fast. Miata's are a great platform that you may THINK needs a lot to hang with the big guys, but you really don't. Go to a autox and just find some of the guys with miatas, and politely ask them questions and advice.

Basic rule of thumb in racing is learn to outdrive your current setup, then upgrade. You can get all that stuff, but won't know the benefits unless you have something to compare it to.

Also, for anyone who's looking to get started into autox/hpde/nasa the 1st mod is ALWAYS driver mod. 2nd, I would suggest a racing seat. You have no idea how much of a difference a simple seat/harness will do for your times. You can't control your car as well while you're fighting to stay in the seat.

THEN, maybe start thinking of other things, but i'd just suggest an alignment, brake pads, and tires. Once you're comfortable that you're driving your car as fast as it can currently go, then start changing things like shocks/springs/coilovers, etc....

also, if all else fails, go lighter. Dude, you have a miata. My friend JJ used to autox his miata and had it down to 2100 lbs.

oh boy do I know that feeling, lol

me -" excuse me, are you an instructor? can you give me some advice or show me what i'm doing wrong"

instructor - " sure, no problem. What do you drive, do you mind if I drive with you in the passenger seat?"

me -"no problem at all"

we then go out and first lap he sets a faster time than mine

me -"son of a bitch, what the hell?"

i'd rather pay $40-50 for a day of autox'ing than $25 for 4 or 5 passes down a 1/4 mile. At least autox'ing teaches you how to really control and drive a car. 1/4 mile just shows you how to be fast in a straight line. I used to be all about 1/4 miles until i tried my first autox. I've officially been hooked since

IMO the first rulel of modding cars is ask questions. I don't know a damn thing about cars but luckily I have good friends that I ask alot of questions.

everything I know about cars I learned from Gran Turismo 1-4. Well, almost everything. I definitely knew what every car on an American road was before I even had my license.

I have. Steven Star asked my dad to be the head chef (under Morimoto) for the Philly location before it opened up.

The food is good, but the sushi is over priced. We're getting the same fish from the same distributors, but they're charging $1 more per piece.
