Which Printer To Use?

So I'm going to the Art Institute this coming fall to further my study in the art of Photography. I really want to have my own printer so I can print whenever. What kind of printer do you all suggest for printing mostly 8x10s? Or possibly some bigger prints too. I don't want something cheaply made, I need a super high quality printer. Thanks in advance

I did quite a bit of research when I was contemplating on doing my own printing. From what I read and what was recommended, I would definitely go with Epson. My choice would either be this:

or this:

The thing about most of these printers is that they need to be used often for the print heads to remain clean. If the heads become clogged/dirty, they use an obscene amount of ink to "clean" themselves. After all my research, I decided to stay with my on-line print lab. Even with the shipping, the lab is about 20% cheaper. For me, that means more money in my pocket for each sale. They also guarantee the prints and replace them free of charge if they are damaged due to shipping.

I can vouch for the performance of the both the 1900 and the 2880. They are both very capable printers. The 2880 will give you slightly better color rendition, so if you're being graded on print quality, it's something to consider.

Before you buy one though, find out what your school's policy is for their labs. I went to Antonelli, and the computer lab was open until 10pm every night. It was very easy to go in at any time and print whatever I needed to. You may find that spending the money on a printer like that isn't necessary, especially when it could be put towards lenses, lighting equipment, etc.
