I should have posted in here sooner. I've been training mma for about 2 years now with some tma training when I was younger (my dad is a TKD black belt and was an instructor for a few years).

Anyone else here train? It'd be cool to get some sparring/rolling partners outside of my gym.
It's concordville, near the intersection of rt1 and 322.

Hoping shogun wins tonight, really not a fan of machida at all. I think kos is a better fighter and should win the fight but he may try and stand with daley a little to long and could get caught. Kimbo better beat mitrione

damn man, wish you were closer. Im always looking to get some new sparring partners, and mix it up from the usual crowd at my gym.

Ive been training muay thai for like 4 years, with some mma off and on in between that.

I thought it was a good card all around.

Kinda bummed that Machida lost, but Shogun was just a MUCH better fighter that night.

And Paul Daley, what a punk man.

I train at Tiger Schulmann's in bethlehem. My instructor is great and two of the assistant instructors fight in new breed and ring of combat pretty regularly. I'd like to try competing in mma eventually but would like to start with some muay thai and grappling tournaments first. I'm most comfortable standing up but I've been picking up jits pretty fast and am pretty comfortable on the ground, even with some of the more advanced students. What I really need to work on before I attempt any grappling competitions is my wrestling and takedown defense.

I actually just chatted with a guy wearing a ratpack mma shirt a couple weeks ago at auto zone on macarthur road. His leg was in a cast lol.

You should come up and check out Ratpack man. Its a lot cheaper then Tiger Schulmanns I can tell you that. We got some great instructors up here. Renzo Gracie black belt Brian Miller, 4x World Muay Thai champ Eric Utsch and kickboxing instructor Ed Arner. I'm guessing you live in the Bethlehem area then? I live right in Wilson.

That sounds like a good idea. The TS thing started when my wife was looking for a gym to start going to and a friend convinced her to try out the Tiger Schulmann program which led to her inviting me. I was really skeptical at first but got a free week of classes and thought it was pretty legit - instructors that knew what they were doing and ranked you by skill level instead of simply how many classes you had been to. The plus was the other students weren't a bunch of big burly tough guys that would intimidate my wife out of going.

Well, 2 years later she decided she's not into it anyway and the classes I've paid for are almost used up and I've been thinking about going somewhere a little more "hardcore" now that she won't be tagging along. Rat Pack is actually probably closer than TS to me (I'm actually kinda between north whitehall and walnutport, just about a mile off MacArthur Rd. I know it's gotta cheaper than TS. Cost is the biggest thing pushing me away from signing back up with that place.

I'd love to come by one night just as a spectator or something to get an idea of how you guys train over there. Do they offer any sort of free trial classes? Do you train grappling in a gi? That's something I haven't done at all yet. TS is all no-gi grappling.

As for my personal goals, just so you know what I'm looking for, I got into this mostly for the self-defense and exercise aspect, plus of course it's a lot of fun and I've been into martial arts ever since growing up on kung-fu movies and the early UFCs brought home by my TKD blackbelt dad. However, I've recently decided that I'd like to actually get in the cage once or twice. I have no notions of becoming a pro fighter or anything, I just like to test myself and I love competition. (I also used to really like getting into street fights for some reason back in my highschool days - even the ones I lost were fun. Guess I'm just a sucker for punishment.)
