Some shots I took today w/ a 55-250 EF-S and my T2i. Borrowing the lens, messing around in my back yard.

My feelings on HDR are summed up right here;

There are some landscape guys who use it to good effect, but they're the exceptions that prove the rule. In my opinion.

Look at the bottom where my caption box is from me mousing over something. the yellow box. right there, there is a series of different views. they look like boxes next to each other lined up in a row.

there are a TON of keyboard short cuts too. just play around, push as many buttons, and click on whatever you can. best way to learn in my opinion. LR is a lot more extensive than what people think.

I agree with this whole post.

HDR is just a technique that got blasphemized and over exaggerated from the internet.

If you combine two (or more) dynamic ranges of a picture i.e. a sky exposure, and a ground exposure and it doesnt look like a cartoony painting, then you have just completed an image with an HDR.

Moving Recovery slider ≠ HDR. Tone mapping ≠ HDR.

It ISSSSSSSS possible to get some detail in shaded areas without making it look like a drawing.

I'm not a fan of HDRs, period. Unless it's like an awesome landscape picture with a sweet sunset, it just ain't workin' for me.
