Of course i saw your post! We want as many to chose from as possible. We still have time to add to the list of potential charities! Unfortunately people arent really into it, or havent seen the post or whatnot. This event will be AWESOME. Hopefully i recieve the phonecall im waiting on tonight and i will let everyone know what said event is.

For everyone that has suggested a charity so far, Thank you! Ill let this go till after the weekend for anybody else that might be interested. Next week, we'll see about picking the charity that we will give to this time. Thanks again.

My wife was just saying how cool it would be for TST to show up on the back of a "Carol for Heart" T-shirt as one of the sponsors. Btw, I ended up getting 7 of those T-shirts just for myself, lol.

Interesting Heart Disease Facts:

- 1 of 2 women die of heart disease or stroke
- Heart disease is the #1 killer of women in the United states.
- Heart disease is not just a disease of older women. It is the leading cause of death for women aged 35 and older.
- Heart disease kills 6 times as many women as breast cancer.
- Heart disease has killed more women than men every year since 1984...and the death rate for women is rising.
- 27% of women smoke. Cigarette smoking is the #1 controllable risk factor for heart disease and is contributing to women's rising death rate from cardiovascular disease.
- A growing number of younger women are taking up cigarette smoking.
- Women often experience milder symptoms of heart disease. About one-third of women have atypical symptoms of heart disease with no chest pain at all.
- Heart disease symptoms often go unrecognized and untreated in women. This results in more advanced vessel disease with a poorer outcome.

My wife and I were a part of this last year. It is local and new and still relatively small so there is a lot of room for more people to get involved. Of course the point is to raise awareness.

Lately, it seems our government is too focused on things outside the country. As we continue to dump billions of dollars over-seas local programs are seeing continued cut-backs each year. It's more important than ever for us to support and to get involved with local events and businesses since this is what really affects us most.

Not to trump you, Wil, but I want the ALS Association to get picked so much so that I want to point out that they also have opportunites to sponsor teams in their 'Walk to D'Feet ALS' which they hold yearly.
Our company participated last year, in honor of my coworkers husband, who suffers from ALS.
Details here of last year's walk here: http://benefitprocessing.com/als.asp

Here is an interesting international charity:

Riders for Health - brings health care to parts of Africa that aren't very accessible. Their mission is to support and provide transportation, mostly motorcycles, to help health care reach more people. We take for granted our vaccines & access to hospitals and they just don't have the transportation infrastructure to do that. I also like it because the donation could help many more people in a 3rd world country, then it could in a local charity.

Thanks cravej, sounds very interesting.

BUMP BUMP BUMP.............Please get all final charity proposals in by Wednesday. It is very important that we get a charity picked out by the end of the week in order to make this even highly successful!

i found this last night http://www.charitynavigator.org/
and was looking through it some. the only thing that turns me off is the info that they give about a lot of these place where they are already getting millions of dollars each year, and also that the CEO takes a $75k 'compensation'
i dont know, can we find a local place that could really use our help but is also a really good cause and will use the money right?

OK it's called the guadelupe mission i believe.. i'm going to get more details, but from what i understand, they have 'umbrella' type services in the poor areas of camden, offering services for children, mothers, etc, all encompassing type of thing. They are right in there nonjudgementally, offering help to anyone who needs it. They had a vigil / memorial service not too long ago, for several different people who were killed in camden, including the three children who were found in the trunk of that car not too long ago...
I'll post more details when i get them...

Thanks to all that listed charities in this post. We have a couple in mind and will have it narrowed down to the final one shortly. Those that dont get picked will definitely be considered for future events. Thanks again.

Okay, the charity has been settled on for the 1st event (still hush as to what the event is, working out the fine details). And the charity is...............

Carol for Heart. (www.carolforheart.com)

The reason this charity has been picked is that it is fairly new and up and coming. It is also a local charity, located just outside of Philly. Wil (2point4DSM) is going to be working hand in hand with the charity. He proposed said charity and is familiar with its workings.

For those not familiar with the charity, it was founded in 2003 to eradicate women's heart disease through increased awareness and education to women and those in the medical community.

The charity is still small compared to a RedCross, or a March of Dimes. Thus, our donations will be much more appreciated, and will help out alot more as well.

Once again, thanks to all who proposed charities. And like i mentioned before, please keep them in mind for the next event. Just because it doesnt get picked, doesnt mean it wont get heavy consideration for next time.
