You must not have ever seen a Taurus SHO. Yeah your car is reliable. For now...

My GTO has never left me stranded except when I had one of my rear brake pads crack, but it wasn't a OEM pad(Hawk HPS). Then 2 weeks later the other rear cracked. I have switched to EBC and have no issues since. The OEM battery kicked the bucket last year but 4+ years I can't complain.

If I was looking for a non-preforance car, I would follow Nick and get myself a Fusion. I keep hearing great things about them.

lol. I've seen Fusions with 150k on them, with nothing other than oil changes and regular maintenance. My car is cheaper to own and is way more reliable, simple as that. Oh. I also have a warranty.

Yeah I rarely hear anything bad about the chevy v8's. The GTO chassis seems solid. It's a shame that we found issues with the paint and other things with the ones we found for sale or else I might be in one now.

Not really. Even the mid 2000 SHOs are terrible. But the mid 90's SHO's were horrendous. This is just like the Hyundai thread. I'll believe they can make a reliable car when they can do it for more than 2 years. Anecdotally 540 M62 V8's can last easily to 450,000 miles. Doesn't mean mine will. If they made a good car, great. It's about time. I don't know enough to assault the reliability of a new car. Nobody knows how they are going to do generally at 100K+ miles yet.

LOL. If I was scared of a little preventative maintenance or not having a warranty I wouldn't buy cars with near 100,000 miles on them. But I have two choices. I can get new BLAH. Or for same money I can get WOW and fix it now and then. I chose wow.. Twice now. I should have gotten the M5 though. They're actually cheaper than the 540. But they have issues that are actually worth worrying about. It doesn't work in any other car because I've never seen a car that still feels good after 100,000 miles. They all start to get ragged. The bimmers for whatever reason just don't. I'm sure the mercedes and lexus fit the bill too but they lean too far to the luxury side of things.

He feels the need to prove himself because he doesn't like the choice he made. It's ok. It's not a bad choice. It's just not MY choice.

ford has been making reliable vehicles for over 2 years.

as far as i know, the SHO stopped production in 1999... what mid 2000's SHO? Its really hard to have a credible argument when you're not only off by 5-7 years.

I'm fairly sure that the motor in Nick's car had been out for a few years prior to the year he purchased it.

As for my car... i'm running on a motor that has been in production as is since 2005 but has been in general production for 15ish.

Not only does Nick own a ford... he has worked at a ford dealership.

However, my point remains... you can't compare an older vehicle that stopped production 11 years ago to one that is being produced now. Ford's quality and reliability is near the top of the charts at this time.

Paint is very crappy in general. Door handles chip really easy but the dealers did cover this under warrenty. Other then that, motors are solid, trans are solid, suspension isn't the greatest and it seems like they couldn't decide between sports car and family coupe. Its an awsome ride but I def wanted alittle more preforance in it at the same time. But, you can't have everything. The rear diff is the only thing that seems to fail in these cars but I don't think it is factory defective, I think it is because people are replacing the fluids, putting the wrong fluids in, or not putting the correct amout of friction modifier in it. I've had no issues with mine 52k miles. Julies 05 GTO had 4 diffs within the first 18k miles before she sold it. 3 failed withing 1000 miles and that to me means bad install or no fluid.

The reasons I bought the car were

Insurance is nothing
Reliability and cheap maintenance
Employee price, which I could have sold the car for what I paid for it with 15k miles on it. It's still worth only 3k less than I paid for it almost 2 years ago and 37k miles.
Awesome gas mileage, oh and reliability.

If I wanted an STi or something similar at the time, I would have bought it. However, I didn't want to maintain or insure one at the time, so I figured I would do the SMART choice and not worry about the car for a year or two. If the car hasn't broken by now, it won't break at all, simple as that. I've given it 37k HARD miles and multiple drivers, hasn't skipped a beat. Now it's time for me to move onto something more fun since I satisfied everything I needed with this car.

The motor in it is also the same motor from the SVT Focus', the Mazda speed3 and speed6. Just not boosted or different internals.

In the end. I still win.

I just did a quick add up, the car cost me 19.5k to buy, in the 2 years I've owned it, paid less than $1k to maintain it.
