Forum Questions...
1)Does a Forum like this exist that I dont know about?? 2) Are there any restrictions about taking a DIY article from another website and using it on my own? Or would i have to get permission from the creator himself/herself? Or if i took one and re-wrote it, would the be acceptable? 3)Id like some opinions on what everyone here would think of a website like that. Who would and wouldn't take the time to contribute. I've been thinking about this because every time I've searched for DIY articles or technical help on forums, There's so many different opinions and ways to do things that, it can get frustrating to find stuff. It would be nice to take all of those articles, from all of the different forums(Imports, Domestic, Airride, hydraulics, Theory, Engine building, Body work, ect....) and put them in one organized place. Dont wanna hear anyone's negative crap... If you don't like the idea or don't think it will work, either keep your thoughts to yourself or express them in a mature way |

I would think that you would just need to give credit where it is due for stuff that isn't yours at the least instead of getting permission every time
sounds like a cool forum to me. I'd have some things to contribute for MR2s, that's for sure

1) i doubt there is a single website the encompasses all that stuff in a forum structure. nor do i think it would be useful exactly... to large...
2) yes there are restrictions. get in touch with the websites you are thinking of using content from and find out 3) too big... nearly useless... google already finds articles and there is more resources available to a site that is dedicated to a specific make/model |

i know there are many resources. The problem i see is when it comes to do it yourself type area, they are scattered all over the place. I'd think it would be much easier if you could go.. make, then model, then general area, then a sub area... and so on. I'm shooting to be able to narrow it down to the part or area of interest. And keep in mind... This whole thing is based on Do It Yourself articles/write-ups. On google, you end up with thousands of results all over the place, some relevant some not, forums that you have to sign up for to view the content, and alot of other difficulties.
Use tire removal for a simple example on a 240sx. car/truck-year-make/Nissan-model/240sx-general area/suspension-sub category/wheels and tires-Modification/General Inquiry- ....... Then from there you could have a list of write ups. example... wheel removal, stud replacement, plugging a tire, and so on. If you search Google for wheel replacement. yo can get a bunch of exhaust stud replacements, manifold studs, and so on. And size could definitely be an issue. Maybe it would be something that should start out with a certain make, Or imports or domestics... I feel as if most kids who don't have the knowledge are driving an import so i could definitely see something there. Keep coming with ideas though... I want to see the ups and downs people come up with because i obviously wont be able to see them all myself |

You'd need permission for everything you use, and a lot of times you probably won't be able to get it.
I think you'd have to aim higher and look to generate your own content to be able to make something of this.

I definitely expect to have to do alot myself. I think im just going to have to sit on this for a while and thing a lot of stuff through and see if its even possible. If not for me, Id even appreciate and support someone else taking initiative and doing something like this.

Every specific car forum as a much of DIY stuff, why would they look for another forum?!!?
I think it would fail big time if you did it as the info is already on the interenet. |

Bryan, could we start a DIY/how-to section on here? I know IWSTI has one. It's very useful. Can't tell ya how many times it saved me from looking like a tard not knowing how to install something.

I think its a great idea but you should make it more specific, like for Imports only
As for sourcing information I would simply go to current forums with people posting their own DIY articles and ask them if you can use it. Or, better yet ask them if they want to contribute by posting the information on their own to take credit and start building a sort of portfolio. The forum itself will also inspire others to come up with their own DIY posts even if its as simple as bolting on an intake. Along with DIY be sure to have a dictionary of sorts on the site. Like "How does a anti-lag system work" or "whats boost creep" etc etc. Like mentioned all the information can be found on google BUT I think it would be great to have it all in one place and offered instead of only searching it when you need to know. If you like any of those ideas send me a PM I have tons more trust me. (maybe some good / maybe no good)
