Anyone know of any Psychology openings in the Lehigh Valley Area?
She is interested in working with school age children. She has 4 years experience working with children in a day care setting. She also has her CPR & first aid certificate. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks

Check out this link to a company in Philadelphia. They set up, run, and manage social programs, schools, and other type of out reach programs in many states. Check out the web page. It can be a resourse for your girlfriend to find local programs in your area where she can apply. I interviewed there a few years back for a finance position. They were a really nice place to work.

I got a job with another agency in the Lehigh Valley called Concern shortly after I graduated with a Psychology degree. I only worked for them for a year before switching careers. Psychology jobs don't seem to pay well in PA unless you have your PhD.
Their address is: 90 South Commerce Way Suite 300 Bethlehem, PA 18017-8611 |

My gf works here
http://www.valleyyouthhouse.com/ I'm pretty sure they're always on the look out for new counselors/in home service providers. My sister did her internship at concern. She liked the place from what i recall. |

Tell her to stay in school and get her PHD, or a master's at minimum. And you should be very supportive of that decision because she will make more money and work better hours.

She wants to pay off loans first and then hopefully the job she gets will pay for the masters degree. They usually do for that stuff.

Masters in psych unfortunately does not do a whole lot. It'll take a PhD or a PsyD to get anywhere near a decent living or job that doesn't make you go crazy yourself. If she really wants to work with kids she should get a teaching cert and do special ed. Better pay, better benefits, better job security. Teaching is tough these days but special ed is ok. Like Chris above I gave up the psych route as well and did a career change before investing too much--unfortunately the market is saturated with psych degrees--too many people have been using that as a scapegoat major when they couldn't figure out what to do. While it sounds like your fionce really has the motivation however there's a lot of competition making the salaries abysmal. BTW thanks for the crank the snow holding up my mailbox is almost gone going to have to get cracking using it soon or it'll fall over!
