reckless driving ticket on video... old story but still puts a smile on my face!

THIS WAS ALMOST 4 YEARS AGO, MANY CAMERAS AGO!


so i just finished my rearvision video system for my bike, but still didnt have audio yet, but was very anctious to see how the video looked, camera angle, glare act... so i ride out of the city around the airport, connect my portable dvr and im off.. shortly into the ride i pass a car and there was a cop behind traffic that i didnt see, so i continue speeding but nuth'n crazy, meanwhile the cop is trying to catch up, but i didnt notice, after a few miles he finally catches up and pulls me over, im think'n he just seen me speeding in the last 1/2 mile or so, needless to say he was flipp'n, i unplugged the dvr from dash before he noticed, my dvr had lots of vidz of wheelies ect.. so i didnt want him to see it, i convinced him i never seen him til he was behind me, he wrote me up for reckless driving (and that was all the ticket said, no details), OUCH!!! he could have wrote me for many other things plus tow my bike, so he turned out to be cool with me. i drove away think'n worse case, i could plea bargain to careless driving which still sucks but way beter than reckless! NOW DONT READ ANY MORE TIL YA WATCH THE VIDEO!

so 3 months pass and im in court think'n it will be a smooth plea bargain, its now my turn to talk to the district attorney as soon as i suggested a plea he said oh no i cant plea this, and im like whatta ya mean you cant plea this, he said "i read what you did" and i said "what did you read" he said read your ticket, i said my ticket only says wreckless driving, he then dug out his copy of my ticket and the description was chok full of offenses, including some that he sorta made up/embelished (remember he didnt know about my cams), he said he saw me u-turn and cut off the van he was behind which the vid clearly shows was not the case, another attorney there told me i may get it dropped because he didnt put details on my ticket, but the da said no dismissle(i didnt have a lawyer) i was a bit pissed about the extra offenses he included, at first i forgot about the video so i was pissed then i go sit back down until i realize i can prove some were not true, i then jump up saying i have this uncut on video i told the da the vid clearly shows i never made a u-turn or cut off that van, so when court ressumes im gonna request a cont to return with video and a lawyer, the judge comes out, the da confers with judge, the judge then calls my name, (full courtroom)when i stand up the judge says those magic words "MR. ROCKETEER, YOUR CASE IS DISMISSED" ( he really did call me mr. rocketeer, haha) i was so juiced on my way out , i turned around and said "you da man" to the judge in front of a full courtroom! hahaha THATS ONE FOR THE TWO-WHEELERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i wasnt cocky until after i knew he was lying, i was ready to take the hit if i really did it but why he had to add stuff, he had me with so many offenses already!

but yea, i was cocky on the way out! but c'mon...who wouldnt be after that!

the lawyer in the courtroom said i could sue the cop for defomation of character, lying ect...
NOW THAT WOULD BE COCKY!! no thanks...i was just glad i got away with it

unless its posted as "no passing" its technically legal to pass as long as its safe (same rules apply as a passing zone)

No, I just don't see it as a big deal to pass a car on a double yellow if it's safe to do so. The lines in the roads are made for cars... Passing zones are longer, And most roads have a double yellow where a pass in a car may be unsafe, but would be perfectly safe on a bike. Bikes can make a safe pass in a fraction of the amount of space it takes a car to make the same pass. Bikes can move through traffic more quickly without taking dangerous risks. If I've got a car in front of me doing 40 in a 45 and I'm coming up on them doing 60, and theirs no one in the opposite lane, I'm going around them, no questions asked. And I don't feel as though someone should be penalized for doing so. I ride similarly to the op.. Not one of those crazy assholes weaving in an out taking extrordinary risks, but if I feel I'm safe to pass, I will. I think it's unreasonable to expect motorcycles to play by the rules 100% of the time. If I wanted to play by the rules, I'd have bought a Prius.

no doubt i deserved a ticket,
but even if a cop gives you 20 tickets, if you can prove 1 ticket was false, his word is now worth **** in this case!!
