Cliff Lee for Roy Halladay?
Sources say the Phillies are talking to Roy Halladay, but Cliff Lee would have to involved in the trade for it to work. What are your guys thoughts? I think it's a GREAT move if they can do it. Lee already said hes gona test free agency(aka sign with the Yankees), and 2 meetings with his agent have gotten nowhere. Halladay will only waive his no-trade clause if he gets a long term extension, which mean we lock him up for a few years. I think it'll be one of Rubens best moves if it goes through. |

lee isn't going anywhere.. no worries. amaro and lee's agent were talking an extension last week. i think amaro is trying to solidify our rotation for the next few years to be lee, halladay, hamels as the 1-2-3 guys.

I really hope we don't lose Lee. I want Halladay, Lee and Hamels.

If Lee goes a lot of their hopes for a second championship goes with it. Lee has proven himself and knows he is on a team that can win.

I like the idea of a Lee-Halladay-Hamels rotation, but at what cost? Is it worth going back to the late 90s teams for 1 year of greatness?
And Doug, last I heard, they met with Lee's agent twice, and got nowhere. Also heard he wants to go back to an AL team after this season. |

lee didn't want to sign an extension right now..so the Phils went out and got someone who would sign an extension...
sad to see lee go, I really liked watching him pitch and will continue to do so in Seattle.

We have a bunch of mediocre left handers. Hamels isn't the same pitcher he was. He proved that ALL post season and most of the regular season. Happ isn't a dependable starter. Who else can start besides those two that are lefties? We have a great right hander in Pedro and average ones in Blanton and Durbin. We need that STRONG left arm of Lee, not the doubtful left arm of Hamels.

Pedro has no idea about arm stamina bringing him up is foolish, so your good with a pitcher for one year rather then getting a pitcher who is great and sign a multiple year deal to not like the trade is foolish Halliday is amazing.

I'm kind of annoyed at the world today, but damn I am getting fed up with all the 'armchair quarterbacks' (mostly on facebook) who are talking big like they know more about baseball and the inter-workings of the Phillies organization than the coaches do. I can appreciate passionate people and understand there's emotion running here, but STFU, the general public doesn't know dick about whats going on behind the scenes, and its obviously not just cut and dry. If you think Lee is worth an extra 10 mil a year and that'll get him to stay, then get out your checkbook and help the Phils out!
I'm bummed Lee isn't looking like he'll be with the Phils next year, we obviously all love what he's been doing. Sounds like he's not interested in staying (for the money, presumably). That sucks, but he's gotta look out for himself and I don't doubt that there will be other teams willing to pay more for him after his all-star display that took the Phils to the WS this year. I'm not questioning the Phils at all... they're doing what they think is best, and they know what they're doing (if the past 2 years hasn't shown that). They have a budget to work with, and they want to be successful as much as any fan out there, so I'll give them the benefit that they're doing everything they can to work toward another WS appearance. Scooping up another great pitcher who may be here for a while sounds like a pretty solid recovery after realizing that you're #1 is looking to leave anyway.

Pedro prolly wont be back next season, they only had him signed for last season. I hate to see Lee go just as much as anyone else, but I feel this was the right move to make to ensure we have an ace for the next few years. I fully expected that if we kept Lee this season, he would walk next winter, prolly right up the turnpike to the Yankees. That would leave us with Cole as our number 1, barring any additions along the way, and if he can't rebound from this past season, that puts us right back to when Vicente Padilla was considered our top guy. Again, I hate to see him go, but in the long run I like this move.

Worst trade so far this offseason by far...
I'm getting the feeling that Halladay is going to come up a big disappointment. the world has already seen him say "**** this team, i want out" once. whats to stop him from doing that here if he doesn't like it. Lee was a workhorse anyway you cut it, a dedicated guy who just wants to win no matter what. and he's not going to do that with Seattle... It's a shame because he deserves to win. And getting rid of guys like Happ, Drabek, Taylor or Brown may not have been all that bad. Who knows whether they are gonna be PROVEN stars or not when they get to the big show? No one. Lee was a proven monster. If they would have had to have gotten rid of Happ or even Blanton to clear room that would have been fine. Hell, they're shopping Blanton around anyway! I think we're gonna be putting all our eggs in one red-headed basket with this guy and if he comes up lame, we're ****ed!

Lee dumped us man... going out and banging the prom queen runner up in Halladay seems like just about the best thing to do to me
![]() I'm not happy about all this, just looking at the reality of the situation. Oh, and if Lee wanted to win he would have stayed with the Phils. Seems pretty obvious he wants dollar signs. I wonder what it would have cost to keep him, and where the Phils budget lies and why. We've got to be generating a lot more cash after the past couple of seasons, are we using it to solidify our team?

Halliday isn't the runner up lee is, we settled for lee last season why are people forgetting it he is who we wanted all along. It's such a better long term deal it's not even funny not to mention Halliday is the better pitcher.
