Ohio Street racing legislation.

I figured some of you might take an interest as to how far some legislation is being taken..... if anything its a good read. I stole this straight from a local site.....

(everything below here was copied and pasted from somone elses post..and do not fully reflect my own views)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The "Monica Durban Law" is up for debate today on the House floor.

The bill as it is written: http://www.legislature.state.oh.us/B...B_191_I_Y.html

The Bill Summary: http://www.legislature.state.oh.us/a...0191-i-128.htm

Kiss your cars goodbye, people, this **** gives the state the right to seize your car for leaving hard from a light, even if you're the only car for five miles around.

If you get convicted of street racing -which now includes ANY AND ALL hard acceleration, high speed, hard cornering, even if no other car is participating- then the court will be REQUIRED, not allowed, REQUIRED to seize your car, with no discretion given to a sentencing judge. So quite literally, if you take off from a light any faster than the rest of traffic, an officer can decide you were racing, arrest you, impound your car, and the court will convict you, take your car and either crush it or sell it at auction.
Even worse, if you are WITNESS to a race, they can decide you were ENCOURAGING the race, and THE SAME PENALTY APPLIES. Worse, there doesn't seem to be any limitation on what can be considered "encouragement" of a race.

This means, potentially, that if someone talks about a street race on here, and they get convicted for that race, hat anyone who even says something positive about that race can be charged with street racing, and face jail time and long-term license suspension.

In addition, for you guys with nitrous systems, they're going to require you to sign a statement saying you won't use purchased nitrous "in any motor vehicle that I operate on any public road, street, or highway in the state of Ohio." Gee, it doesn't say "in any motor vehicle BEING OPERATED on a public road", it says that you can't use it in a car that you operate on a public road. That leaves a lot of room for them to decide this means that even if you never use it on the road, they can charge you for using it at the track in a car that is also driven on the street. If you "violate" that statement, they'll charge you with misdemeanor falsification.

This bill gives police and courts free reign to consider ANY behavior they disapprove of as street racing, and destroy the life a livelihood of anyone they wish to without even having to produce any kind of real evidence.

Monica Durban either doesn't have a ****ing clue just how badly this law she's allowing her name to be attached to can be abused, or she is so dead-set on revenge against a dead man's friends that she doesn't care that it's going to destroy people's lives.

unbelievable.... So basically, a cop can be having a bad day because he forgot his coffee cup and decide to pull you over, take your car, and distroy your life because he didnt like your hair style that day. Im sure many people plan on running over Monica Durban with their vehicle...equipped with nitrous. Glad nothing of this nature is being passed around here.

There are SO many, and more thought out plans of legislation on the whole "street racing" issue than this.

This seems like someone with a vengeance threw it together after a long night of drinking and ranting about their problems.

I agree, they are going about this totally wrong. Taking off on a light hard is NOT racing...It is taking off on a light hard lol.

Off topic but I think street racing would die down a lot if they open up a track in philly.

So many people street race in philly it's insane. And I know people will say we shouldn't have to build a track people should listen...which is true...but they don't.

Building a track won't fix everything but it will sure help.

this isnt aimed at you at all, by the way. but how many times have the tint laws been discussed on this site? guess what? im gonna make it clear cause im tired of seeing it. IF YOU HAVE TINT ON YOUR WINDOWS, ITS ILLEGAL. ANY PERCENTAGE. ANY WINDOW. UNLESS YOU HAVE A TRUCK. im sorry for going off topic but i can see this thread turning into how unfair laws are and how cops are dickheads for enforcing them.

All that I have to say is maybe some cities should look at the problem & turn it into a solution aka revenue.. Peep this; http://racelegal.com/web/about.asp

not true. you can have 70 percent tint. and you can paint your windows black on the rear and rear sides if you really want to.

i think the op is just trying to say spirited driving will get your car impounded, im sure 99 percent of the cops wont go that far, but since its the law there will be 1 dickhead who will do something.

i wasnt even making it an issue.... MY understanding of the reading is that if you currently have a reckless op or a street racing ticket... and you receive another citation......you WILL receive a 3-5th degree felony.
