Yes its and ethical practice called social law. You give up some of your freedoms to gain protection. Otherwise we would all be dead by now.

Protection from what? The evils of flavored tobacco? Is he going to ban cigarettes next? Maybe alcohol? How about putting a cap on how much someone can watch TV per day, I hear it's bad for your eyes. And don't forget kids, soda rots your teeth, we should get rid of that too. Pornography corrupts the mind and gives people hairy palms, I bet Obama is going to go after that too, ****ing douchebag.

Note the exemption for "menthol" flavor.
From what i have read so far, there was a push by phillip morris(marboro), to have these cigs made illegal. The first push was back in the early part of this decade(holy ****, 2000 is 10 years ago). They wanted to kill off competition for their brand.
The "banner" that they are waving is that kids are less likely to "try" a standard cig, than a flavored one.
Contrary to popular belief, the Kreteks(cloves) that were sole in this country contained no mroe nicotine, or tar than a standard cigarette.
These are just a victim of lobbyists in the government, another reason why politicians cannot be trusted.

getting rid of it? never...

taxing it a little more? lol... you'd be surprised.

but it's ok... it fights obesity right?

Not like actual FOOD isn't the leading cause of obesity. The govt is looking for anything and everything to blame other than people themselves.

Not "white" at all. It's amazing what you can convince people to do when they are already high.

True, it's people's own decision to take care of their own health, etc, but look where that has gotten a lot of people today. Not very far. Humans are gluttons for punishment.

Anyone realize that health care costs continue to rise? This effects just about everyone. And the fact that people continue to treat their bodies badly, and cause their own health problems, is a big factor for rising health care costs. I dunno about you, but I don't enjoy paying for other peoples' bad habits.
Yeah and guess what else plays a large factor in rising health care costs? Bad eating habits. Shall we tax the crap out of, or even ban, unhealthy foods? How about a mandatory physical every year and people found to be overweight will have to pay additional "fat taxes"?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/eu_med_obesity_cancer

That is just one example. Using health care costs as a reason to ban or place heavy taxes on smoking is stupid. And no, I am not a smoker. People who advocate smoking bans and taxes tend to not care because it doesn't affect them. What if these taxes and bans were placed on something YOU liked? You like modifying cars? How about we ban all car mods? Where does the limit on people's choices and freedoms end?

And I suppose you supported the Patriot Act too?

That seems like a logically sound argument.

Don't like smoking? Don't smoke or stand next to people that do. Problem solved.

I hate to say it, but Im kinda for that tax... at least on soda. Its a fairly small tax when reaching the consumer but will add up fast enough to help pay off some of our programs and debt.

Also, soda is a huge consumer of high fructose corn syrup which is bad for your health (worse than cigs IMO because of the amount everyone eats all the time) and its bad for the economy (keeps local farmers poor.)

But yeah, Ill miss my blacks... first cigs I ever smoked. Still have half a pack, nothing like the smell and taste of a fresh pack

While you are at it, i think a tax on how many time you fart would be nice, cuz thats pretty gross, plus Co2 and methane come out, and that isn't green.
Gee whiz, mechanics should be taxed every time they wash their hands, because grease and dirt are bad for the waterways.
Anything besides green leafy vegetables should be taxed, meat has fat in it, and its obviously bad for you, so lets protect you from that as well.
TV time is non-productive time, sitting on your ass makes you fat, so you should be taxed per minute of TV.
Couches are devices of lazyness, so lets tax them too.
These internet forums are also a big waste of time, you obviously arn't active when your typing, so these get taxed too.
