wanting to upgrade/ 2nd body

so last night i was trying to get shots of a storm leaving over the ocean, but was using a cheap tripod and my d90 fell off and smashed into the wood of the pier that i was standing on, from about 4 feet up.

i dont believe anything broke, possibly my 18-105, but i can deal with that.

so now im stuck, i want to send in my d90 body to have it looked at but im about to being shooting h.s. sports again in the next 3 weeks, and last time i sent in my d90 it took a little more than 3 weeks to get it back.

so my question is, do i dare stick it out, and not send it in to be checked, with the possibility of a problem popping up down the road while shooting an event?

or send it in and pick up a second body (been wanting to do this for the past month) but do i pick up the new d300s or another d90?

the main thing selling me on the 300s is the 7+ fps, i know i could just get the d300 and still get this, but id just like to get the most updated piece of equipment

so....
1. stick it out, with possibilty of running into a problem down the road?
2. send in d90, and pick up a d300s/d90 while its in the shop

oh, and believe me i'd love a d700, but thats out of the question for now. ehh maybe if someone can really sell me on it.... hahaha

well it sounds like you might benefit from a pro body (metal construction, weathersealing, etc). If you can't live with the "outdated" (hardly) d300, then get teh d300S and call it a day.

All I'm saying is the D300s is $1800 and that's if you can even find one

A mint used D700 runs around $2100

That extra $300 will seem like nothing once you use the D700

true, but he would need FX glass (if the OP has glass that can work, its a no-brainer)

you can find a factory refurb d700 for 2k or less online...thats what i did

^ id be tempted if i could really find one at that price, i mean the body by itself is 2400 new, so i guess if i was to get one, i'd just go all out, and grab one new, but i dont think im ready for all thats just yet.

and my lenses arnt for fx, so id be spending a lot more money then im already planning, if i want to upgrade lenses too.

im looking for the faster fps, so if i wanted that on a d700 id have to crop to dx to get the 7 fps, so i guess im leaning towards the 300s as of now, if i can find one in time
