The correct swaybar arrived today from Perrin directly. I was still charged for the turbo inlet pipe, Josh is handling that.

Here's proof:

Perrin bar installed. Really fast to install this, and I like how on the factory swaybar, Mitsu installed rings to prevent the rear swaybar from walking. It's something that aftermarket bars should have too from my Subaru experience.

anyways, bolted right in without any fuss, fitment is great. You can't see the Perrin sticker on the bar once installed, but its a good way to tell which way is right side up.

Here are some pics:

I don't have any real driving impressions just yet. I took it around the neighborhood to make sure things were tight. Had to retighten the endlink nuts to get rid of one clunk...now its nice and silent.

Rear end does seem to be a little stiffer, which is what I wanted. I didn't want a drastic change to the cars overall balance since I think it's pretty damn good from the factory. I think this bar is exactly what I wanted/expected.

Haha.. I should post that, Don.

So I think I ****ed up the Evo. This rear swaybar is so damn effective at getting the rear end to step out and to get it to really whip around a turn, that it's making the front feel like poo. Ok, that's extremely over exaggerated. In actuality, the rear is just quicker to respond with less roll, but the balance of the car is exactly how I like it in terms of which end slides first. So far, the car is very, very neutral on hard turn ins and corner entry. I can get the rear end to follow the front and even mix in some oversteer too now which is exactly what I wanted.

The bar further shows me that for street tires, I don't think the spring rate needs to be increased. The valving of the shocks is still humming along over rougher roads, although I do feel the rebound stiffness at times. Just such an overall well-balanced package, I'm continually amazed and impressed by this car.

Do I upgrade the front bar to stiffen up the body a little bit and mess with such a great balance? I'm thinking not right now...

Yeah, definitely keeping with just the rear bar...the balance is just too damn good.

So I went to Kelly today to get my Evo 3k service done. When I bought the car, I was told that I would receive two years of free maintenance. I also saw it written down in the mess of paperwork. Today, I was informed that I did not receive that and that the oil change would be $100 since its an Evo.

The service manager called the sales manager to verify this and I could overhear on the phone about how I'm the guy with that broken STi that they had all the problems with that recently got sold. Some more stuff was said that I couldn't hear, but that I didn't get the two years of free maintenance. I called my salesman who told me that I would get it and he too had a similar story.

I know its written down somewhere, I really am sure of it. The problem is that my paperwork is in the moving truck headed to NC so I'm SOL.

I asked the service manager what the sales manager was saying about me and my STi. He said that they had to replace a shifter fork on the car after everyone of the sales guys took out the car and romped on it. He said it was passed around a lot and beat on by the staff. I'm shocked at his honesty, but I went on to tell him that my Evo will not be serviced there due to that kind of treatment of my old car. I also informed him how the guys romping on it at Kelly broke the shifter and had to replace the lockout cable, a problem that I had zero to do with.

So long story short, I found out that they abused my STi and blame me for the problems it developed under their "care" before unloading the car and that because of that, they don't want to stand by their agreement on free maintenance on my Evo. I've also learned that while I know its written down somewhere in my envelope of contracts, its not worth the hassle of doing it if thats the kind of professionalism I could expect from their staff.

I'd change the oil and rotate the tires myself, but with this move coming up in less than 4 days, I simply don't have the time. Ryan, can you please fit me in for one? 5W30 mobil 1. I'm not sure on quarts since the service manual is headed to NC too, but I'll look it up.

It's a great thing that I absolutely love the car.

I called the BBB on Kelly back in the day, worked for me as they gave me a new turbo and a trans rebuild that failed 500miles later lol

Ryan is the man, changed my oil, rotated the tires in and out of the shop in under an hour and $35.

I'm going to miss Area1320!

It's just not worth the hassle to me anymore at this point. They told me that I had to change my oil every 3k to keep my warranty. I really don't have time to deal with people like that. Let them hit up someone for a $15 option on their car sales, I deal with $15 mil contracts. (i'm kidding, but work gives me a different perspective when dealing with clowns like these guys).

Oh, did you get my PMs by chance? I'd like to see how much you could squeeze out of the Cobb stage 1 tune

averaged 25mpg all the way down here to G'boro with the car. The Recaros started to hurt my butt after 5-6 hours, but my back felt great so I have no complaints.

I keep waiting for the mod-bug to hit me and me to awaken with $4,000 in cc debt, but I've just been really happy with how the car drives as-is. I would like to get a custom Protuned map onto the car one of these days since the Cobb tune, while a major improvement over stock, is running pretty rich too.

Suspension with just a rear swaybar is perfect for a performance street car. Mitsubishi just nailed it. It will lean in turns a little bit, but that's from the progressive springs which help give the car the smooth ride quality so I really don't mind it.

Brakes could use some Ferodo DS2500s, lines, and fluid just in case. It is a heavy car that requires some braking power, even though it moves like one so much lighter in the turns.

and that's really it. Here's a writeup I posted on the EvoX forum. They really aren't into suspension over there...

"Well, my educated guess about the Evo X's handling prior to buying this bar was simple. Extremely neutral with just a faint hint of understeer. I also wanted a touch more response in the rear of the car to dial the car in. I'm happy to say that this bar does it. The car can really dig in out of turn now and get tail happy if you push it just enough, but otherwise is entirely controllable and neutral. The front could use a touch more roll stiffness too, but I don't like the sizes currently out there.

If I could design swaybars for this car on the stock dampers, springs, and tires I think I'd run 24mm in the front and 25mm in the rear. Just a touch more at each. The feel of the car at 23/25mm is damn good though.

The install is a piece of cake and the results aren't overwhelming, but noticeable. Like I've said before, the car really doesn't require a lot of changes to its suspension for an occasional autox/hpde daily driver. It's so dialed in from the factory.

I used to run modified KW V3's on my old STi with a variety of different swaybar sizes and finding the right balance was time consuming and hard to get right. This car is better sorted right away.

It leans in turns from the progressive rate springs, but thats a double-edged sword. Run linear and the ride quality of the car will be degraded...so will lowering the car on the stock dampers since you lose out on that bump travel.

A bunch of things to consider depending on your goals with the car. From my perspective, rear swaybar and you're golden on a street driver Evo."

I do want to put in Bluetooth into the car from the MR. That will relocate my AWC button from the steering wheel to the center console. It will also add steering wheel audio controls, which will be very helpful. I find myself playing with the touchscreen and the car slowly drifting out of the lane, haha. Also adding a small felt sticker to the glovebox to stop the only rattle I have inside the car. Pretty amazing...an Evo without any real rattles, etc. Mitsubishi just nailed it with this car.

Robispec will be in Jersey at the end of this month if you're interested in getting some suspension or alignment.

Cool, I'm just "dave" on there

I now live in Greensboro, NC otherwise I'd love to go and talk to Robi to pick his brain about this car.
