X2! Also like everyone has already stated. You can get a disc lock and lock your steering column. In my opinion if your that worried about it, I would buy one of thoose big a** chains and lock it to something.

You could run a long bike lock from the through the front and rear wheels. That would stop it from ever rolling if they tried to put it in neutral and push it onto a flat bed.

one idea i had since i live in center city was to get a couple bike chains for the front and rear through the frame and rear wheel. Get a medium sized tub or somthing large enough that it would be tough to lift and fill with concrete. have the post for the chain embedded into the concrete and wallaaaa. A heavy assed deterence. Gotta lift the bike and the 1 or 2 concrete blocks to snatch it or cut the hard core chains.

put a huge sign on the side that reads "PLEASE DON'T STEAL THIS", people can't ignore something like that.

even the locks won't stop people who really want it unless you lock it to something. My buddy came out of his house to 4 dudes that had put 2x4's through the wheels and lifted it away. He had insurance so it wasn't worth him getting beat down for it.

the main point here is to prevent theft. although a good insurance policy will help financially, thats not going to prevent all the trouble you'll have to go through. and a lo jack will help you find it after its gone, but a stolen bike is immediately torn down after it is stolen, so no guarantee you'll get it in one piece.

some bikes are ridden away, others are picked up into a minivan or truck. disk locks offer moddest protect but still are not a guarantee.

i rent a storage unit, 10 x 10. it $50 a month but it's the best way to protect my bike. i would suggest that as being the best way to potect a bike.

this is how easy it is to steal a bike:

dam good point! rent a place is a perfect idea. as for a bike getting stripped down its o so true. we had a guy get his bike stolen and they found it in about 1 hour and it was already stripped down. all that was there was the frame and engine!

4 guys 2 metal poles and a truck solves that problem....i say get a bike when you have a safe place to keep it. NOTHING will stop people from stealing a bike on the street. also always get full coverage and GAP insurance.

Get low Jack gps system for bikes, and also get a pager alarm. My roomate has a pager alarm that mages not only the remote but his phone, and it saved him once from getting his R1 stolen. The slitest fibration or touch of anyting on the bike will set it off, sucks becuase he got up int he middle ov the night one time and ran outside the bike had been bombed by like 25 birds hahaha

1.Street bikes are generally stripped as soon as they are stolen. Lo-jacl is no good here...it's going to be found and destroyed.

2. Locks and chains are BS. Your your ready to seriously steal someones bike I would think you would have some boltcutters on standby.

3. Brake disk locks...steering colom locks...etc are useless. My bike weighs 350lbs. Easily carried away by a few capable people.

My bike is NEVER kept outdoors. And never parked where I can not see it. It sleeps in my garage and my St. Bernard sleeps next to it.....nobody is trying to steal mine.

short or drilling into the pavement and installing anchors that way nothing will keep it from being stolen(even that won't stop it just make it very hard) i would install a very loud alarm and a disk lock .. a master lock actually worked for mine (through a hole in the rotor) i just attached a yellow bungie from the lock to my handle bar to remind me

get a kryptonite chain. You can get a wheel lock because it takes 4 ppl to pick a bike up w/ 2 metal bars. Parking on the street is hard to prevent

Cover it - out of sight, out of mind. I've seen good bikes stay in the city for a long time without being stolen. Only if your immediate neighbors are thieves will it disappear but even then most people don't like to **** where they eat.
