Angry New motor for my baby, all ordered and ready to go.

So as you guys know I have a 93 MR2 with a Gen III 3sgte in it. A few days ago I noticed a rattle that got worse as the rpms went higher. I was driving it back to my hometown today (about an hour from where I live) since I have a garage to work on it there. When I left the oil was at a good level. On the way home I saw white steam/smoke coming through my vents. The temp gauge read normal, but I don't think there's any way it was right. The car shut off and I coasted to a stop. When I checked the oil it was low. I added 2 1/2 quarts to get it to read on the dipstick again so it burned through a ton of oil. When I tried to start it, it wouldn't turn over. I know it's bad, but what do you guys think?

burning oil like a mutha effa.......maybe shot rings or blown headgasket. u leaked ALOT of oil. then ran the car for a while turning ur internals into a mess of metallic mush. Time for a new motor go IDM and swap in the V8 from a Ferrari Scuderia aint NOBODY else got that ish

Why would you continue driving with a "rattle" that sounded bad or even with a motor consuming that much oil.

From what you said with the car shutting off and now it won't crank sounds like it locked up, seized, melted, all that good stuff. Sounds like you ran it dry on oil if you had to add 2 1/2 quarts just to get it on the dipstick. Its what a 4-5 quart system? Time for a complete rebuild.

Could you hear the starter trying to turn it over?

the rattle sounds like rod bearings if it went faster as the rpms climbed.

when you crank, does it sound like normal cranking or is it much faster? if its faster, could be dead compression ( ringlands are toast).

She said it doesn't turn over. I'm not sure if she means it won't start or if it won't crank the engine at all.

thats why i asked. the starter will still turn the motor even if the internals are shot. from experience of blowing up a motor, i know the starter will still turn the motor just nothing happens.

Well depends how it "blew up". I've seen a few motors literally locked up either from a broken/bent rod or some seized bearings.

the rattle didn't sound bad at all, i noticed it a few days ago slightly and i haven't been driving it since. i was driving it home because i didn't have anything at my apartment to work with. the starter tries to turn it over, i'm almost postive it's seized. i'm going to try to break it loose and if i can't i guess i have to take it completely apart and see how bad the damage is.

it's not cranking at all. you can't even turn the motor by hand. i'm going up now to try to break it loose.

true. i detonated a piston. the rods were still intact so it still spun. her situation sounds like rod bearing failure.

probably would be a better idea to pop the oil pan off first.

did you notice it burning oil before? was there any leaks? i find it hard to think that if you went through 3 quarts of oil in a day that you did't notice some smoke.

^ it never burned oil before and there were no leaks, i check my oil extremely often. i was absolutely amazed because i literally checked my oil right before i left and about 40 minutes into the drive i saw the white smoke. as soon as i saw it i went to pull over and the car shut off. it burned at least 2 1/2 quarts because i made sure it was perfect before i left. it burnt a lot of oil very quickly.

I really hope you don't take this wrong... but it only takes a split second... whether it's under your control or not.

I dunno. Assuming you did everything right, 8K miles? I blame the engine builder or assembler. That's just too young.
