09 MS3 *new project* DD***NEW PARTS IN THIS WEEK***

the story:

after looking around a an affordable but fast sport compact car i found a few good options. An 09 Mazdaspeed 3 GT, 09 Chevy Cobalt SS, and an 09 Honda civic si.

did some research and found out the MS3 led in comparison tests and outnumbered both the si and SS in power. The Honda was a nice car but with a price higher then the MS3 and cobalt without the power it wasnt the car for me. After test driving both the the SS and MS3 the both where very nice cars. the SS had some features that the MS3 didnt have with a lower price. The brembo brakes, moon roof, and i liked the wider tires and the rear spoiler. But then again the ride and interior just didnt seem up to standards with the mazda. So with a week to decide i chose the MS3.

MS3 a few days before i got it, still on the lot:

The cobalt SS:

Mazdaspeed 3 specs:

-263-hp, 2.3L Direct-Injection Spark Ignition (DISI) turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with 280 lb-ft of torque at 3000 rpm

-Close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission, Mazda Advanced Torque Management System and limited-slip differential

- Available Xenon High-Intensity-Discharge (HID) low-beam headlights, rain-sensing windshield wipers, Bose® premium audio system with 7 speakers and DVD navigation system

- some more info - http://www.mazdausa.com/MusaWeb/disp...ehicleCode=MS3

currently the car has 2800 miles on it and has minor modifications from stock.

current modifications:
- Cobb Short ram intake
- Cobb turbo inlet
- Turbosmart dual port hybrid BOV/BPV

soon to come summer projects:

- SU TMIC
- a new set of wheels but still undecided
- DG cf front lip
- DG cf rear wing extension
- Coilovers (undecided)
- either Greddy ti-c, cobb catback,or corksport catback
- cobb downpipe
- turbosmart electronic boost controller
- dashhawk
- boost/AFR/oil pressure gauges
- Rays lug nuts
- hks type-1 turbo timer

so far...

havent decided what to get first so it should be updated in 2 weeks with a new part(s)

Corksport downpipe and MSD dashhawk coming in this week..pictures will be up by sunday

good luck with the new car-- that car used to be on Mazdas247.com, I remember the original owner showing off the pinstriping around the Mazda logo.

Did the car come with a TMIC cover? There is supposed to be a cover on that that seals to the hood ducting.

Forget about the SU intercooler-- the fitment isn't great and they still heatsoak because they are so damn close to the exhaust manifold and the valve cover.

If you have any questions, post up!

Dude sick car! I love the mazdaspeed3, definitely fun to drive. And if you're on the mazda3forums these do come a little underpowered. Someone dyno'd it stock and got 241 fwhp. Good luck with the summer projects. Look into engine mounts for this car, they do wonders for mazdas being the stock engine mounts are not a stiff as you might think it is.

I wish i was in the position to pick between the cobalt and ms3 as a nice sporty daily. I honestly think about it daily but i'm not in the position to buy. I was all for the ms3 but lately i think a wingless cobalt ss is what i'd choose. Maybe in a few years i'll be looking for a nice low mileage one.
I don't remember where or why because i don't frequent the mazda boards since i sold my msp but i've seen the pics of the pinstriping on your ms3. Maybe he was on here?
Congrats!

can't see pics at work but is it black with the 'stache stripings? I don't see it on your list but motor mounts will make driving this more enjoyable.

side note: i think we need a Speed meet

Its MGM with red pinstriping around the rear mazda logo.

there was a motor mount recall on the 07 models, since then I have not heard of one breaking.

people have measure upwards of 20-30whp with a decent FMIC. Once you are fully bolted the stock TMIC really holds you back.
