Damn! I'm glad I didn't see that when you initially posted that whole "18k" thing. Bad things would've happened.

Good luck man, considering the comprehensiveness and thought with which you modified this car I'm sure the X is going to be killer.

Thank you for the kind words It was a very fun, albeit expensive, time with the STi. I'm looking forward to what the X will bring.

Haha, I'd be willing to bet it'll make its way back onto TST eventually.

If so, I'd have a couple ideas for the next owner to look into provided they were a suspension junkie.

More seat time in the Evo has me thinking back to my GD experience. Ultimately, I'm of the mindset that there is really nothing you can do to get enough front grip out of the 04-07 STi platform. Let's go over what I had done to increase front end grip:

Tires, alignment, ALK, cc plates, sways, roll center kit, lowered cg, higher wheel rate.

I could have increased caster up front another .5 degrees or so with the free castor mod, but I highly, highly doubt that that would have cured the cars natural inclination to losing traction up front in a turn...either on entry or out of the apex.

now..i could have MAXED the front out with another degree of negative camber to bring it up to -3 and have done the free castor mod on the control arms to get another .5 degrees of castor, but I honestly think thats the very absolute limit to what the car can do and ultimately is going to affect tire wear aka, don't do it on a street car unless you plan on going back down on the negative camber for even wear.

So you're left with two viable options to coax the rear end out instead of the front washing out...the first choice is by using the rear swaybar to increase the effective spring rate of the rear suspension....the other choice is to run higher rebound on the T2s in the rear vs. the front to stiffen up the damper.

The trouble with these two options is that they both sacrifice ultimate overall grip of the car in order to acheive a better balance. This would take track testing to verify, but I'm of the mindset that the car would be slower by doing this, albeit more fun to drive.

So to me, my GD was maxed out for all realistic intent and purpose. Subarus answer in 08 was to reposition the front end suspension a tad to coax more dynamic castor out of it, but i'm unsure of the SAI angles on it and the ensuing camber curve to make any predictions of how it would react...

Cliff Notes: The GD understeers unless you sacrifice overall grip to attain oversteer.

I didn't have the stock parts, needed to get something done quickly, and money talked.

Bump from the dead. I've finally added a directory in the first post that will link directly to the main topics of interest in this journal. Doing this brought back a lot of great memories with the car, it was definitely a fun project.

Well, this car's last chapter had to be written eventually, I suppose. I found out via Facebook that this car was totalled the other day due to a 16 yr old girl hitting it at an intersection. I put almost 4 years of work, money, blood, sweat, and tears into it so I'm still not entirely sure how to react just yet. My immediate feeling is one of disbelief that it only went 3 months away from my hands on the steering wheel for this to happen...and a feeling of great anger due to the loss of my work in such a way.

In the past, i had no regrets over trading the car in, but after learning of how Kelly Mitsubishi beat on it relentlessly until breaking the shift fork, short shifter, and reverse lockout prior to the sale...and now this...I'm inclined towards regreting ever trading it in. Not because I wanted to keep it, but rather because I had no call over who could buy it.

It also shows me the financial waste of car modding. I invested over $10k into that car and now its worth scrap in a blink of an eye, a non-attentive driver, some tire skid marks, and a few oh ****s.

While I still feel my Evo is the better platform, I would have put my STi up against anyone elses around any track and not have been concerned.

On this day, my work died. Unbelievable. Almost four years...my first car out of college with my first real paycheck...where I learned suspension as well as most and dissected an entire platform...all gone...without me behind the wheel.

Glad everyone involved is physically ok...but man, I'd be lying if I don't feel the urge to point my finger in anger.

At least now the history of that 2005 CGM STi is fully written for everyone to enjoy...although never as much as I did living it.

R.I.P.

Damn bro that sucks to hear. But honestly it lives on as a role model to me and other wrx drivers. Ur car was done the way it should be. It may have been the most solid sti Ive ever seen in person. Not crazy about the evo seats tho lol. but it had its purpose and served u well, just be glad it didnt happen while u owned it.

It was a great car.

Thanks guys.

For everybody to say that I was crazy to trade it in, while also saying I was thorough with the car on the other hand...makes me wonder when the light bulb will go on.

Sad day for a very clean and tastefully modded STI.
