I've always been a paycheck to paycheck type of person. The way I see it, as long as your bills and obligations are satisfied why not have a little fun with what you work hard for? I do, however space it out some. I usually designate ~200 per pay for modifications. Exception lies with rising gas prices.....when they go up modding starts going down.

Honestly, I'm not. Most car stuff has been put on the back burner for now. Got a wedding to pay for. Hopefully next year I'll have some extra cash, or at least beer money.

I just put $3-400 in savings out of every paycheck. (That is...until I have enough saved up for whatever I'm saving for for my car lol!)

It's tough. I save up a bunch, and then something expensive comes up; It never fails. The cars get modded in the interrim

I had a good bit saved until the paint job and now it starts all over again next month...

I live on Salary and generally save my commision/bonus money... Ive modded most of my car on commisions.

But if you really wanna get ur car modded up the best thing is to work 2 jobs.. one for bill and another job for mods so you can just bang it out and get the car to where you want it..

How i saved for my STi i worked 57 hrs a week for about a year and half and saved about $1000 a month or $250 every week.

Being a private banker for snoby millionaires this is how I save:
I get paid salary + commission, from each normal paycheck I save 250 like Kir does. As far as the commission 80-90% goes into the savings account.
Additional retirement (401k, Roth IRA, IRA) $350 goes towards the 401k, $150goes towards the Roth; as for the IRA it’s the bastard step child and gets $50.

This month alone I've saved liquid $1200.00 from my first paycheck. And $550 towards retirement for the entire month.

The best idea is to stop into your local bank and open a separate savings account for the BS spending money. This is how your account should look like:

Checking: Bills/Food/etc..
Savings 1: Rainy day money
Savings 2: BS spending money (car fund)
Brokerage: ie etrade, Scott trade
Retirement: 401k, IRA
Credit card with low interest rate preferably below 6%

Also, if you have direct deposits you can auto allocate through the routing and account number so certain monies to be dispersed. So the less you see in your paycheck the less you will miss it.

Wow... I posted that over 4 years ago!

I actually use an ING savings account. If I keep money in my checking I find that I'm more likely to spend it. With my savings being in my ING, I don't even realize that it's there.

We have two of those, but everything that goes in is allocated to wedding stuff right now, so it comes right back out.

Man I can't wait until November.
