Does more NOISE equal more POWER?
Out of these 3 what is more power? 1)OEM Muffler System 2)Straight Through Catless system 3)Cat-Back System 4)Turbo CatBack I know that the Catless system is louder so does that mean more power? or no? |

read the articles here on Team-Integra.net under the 'exhaust' section. there's a lot of great info that will answer every question you could ever have about exhaust.

More NOISE doesn't mean more power, better flowing exhaust means more power. You can still have a decent flowing exhaust without it being obnoxiously loud. Personally, I usually just make it really loud lol

2) Straight through catless adds power but takes the low-end torque away and adds power to the high rpm. 3) Cat-back system gains very little because the piping is usually a slight bigger and the muffler(s) flows with less restriction and maybe weighs less. It does lose a little below but it is gained on the high end. 4) Only applied to turbocharged cars not N/A

no problem. i read all of them in one sitting a while back and sat back from the computer with this "aha!" kind of feeling. all that i had learned about exhaust in the past was just rumors built around basic principles that had been accepted as facts. after reading those i realized that everything i thought i knew was completely wrong.

the less back pressure the more flow, and the more flow the more power. How loud it is means nothing really, look at hondas (no offense) they are very loud but only make 190hp (but thats good for a honda since they weigh nothing)

i know you mean well, but explaining the idea of back pressure and how it's related to the power output of an engine with one sentence only adds to confusion about the subject. hondas aren't loud. people can choose to make them loud. same as any other car. just because i see some idiot with a fart can on his cavalier doesn't mean that cavaliers are loud, does it? my honda, for example, will absolutely NOT be loud. i'll have a car that sounds slightly louder than stock, but that flows better than 95% of the exhausts that people use on similar cars. it's all based on the exhaust design. exhaust design that i learned from those articles. just because i feel like being annoying and pushing those articles a little bit more, i'll direct link to each... Exhaust Basics Exhaust Design: Effects on Noise Advanced Exhaust Tech I Advanced Exhaust Tech II : Backpressure and Area Catalytic Converters with higher flow Header/Exhaust designs: Effects on Power

Power makes noise, not the other way around
