has anyone been to Amsterdam?

so I am in the process of planning a trip for my girlfriend and I to amsterdam at the end of november for her birthday and would like a little information from anyone that has ever been there.

I have been all over europe multiple times but never got to go to the Netherlands and figure what better time than now! If anyone has been there, can you suggest a good place to stay (I was looking at hotels, but renting an apartment seems to be cheaper/nicer.) I am also looking for fun attractions and good places to eat/visit.

Any help would be much appreciated!

I was there but I stayed in a hostel... The Flying Pig haha. Its legendary.
It was a really cool place though... from the canals and bikes and shops to the red light district and so on. Went and saw a sex show one night at one of the big name places... it was pretty blah to be honest. I mean there were definitely people having sex on stage but I just expected to say 'holy ****' and it was pretty... standard. I'm told the smaller seedier places are, well, seedier.
Take a camera! Let us know what you end up doing...

If I went to Amsterdam, i would find the closest coffee shop and never leave........ever.
Only thing I would need is an ATM machine so I could keep buying "coffee".

dude all I'm saying is after seeing the movie hostel, idk that I could stay in a hostel LOL! My buddy at work is going for the second time, I'm jealous.

Amsterdam Pics
do not take a camera to the redlight district if you take a pic they will throw your camera into the canal, people like it private.

There are red light houses all over the place not just the Red light district, the girls are prettier in the district, there are great bars everywhere remember you are in the netherlands ask for DUTCH beer ( although you can get belgins. And Amstel, Heinekin are much better there, try them even though you think you have had them before/

Eat at the resaurants along the canal, Anne Frank's house is a msut see, even if you are not into it, Van Gough museum is great to and take your girl to the Diamond faactory tour is small and interesting.

Hang out in the park with the Amsterdam sign you will meet locals who might invite you to party.

i will absolutely bring a camera! and im sure my GF would be all about the sex shows so that could be fun haha.

I don't remember the name of the hostel we stayed at but here's what we visited in addition to all the usual debauchery:

Ann Frank house
Van Gogh museum (we did that on shrooms)
Sex museum
Torture museum
Weed museum ( they had a HUGE growhouse in there)
Heineken Brewery (you get to drink heineken for free)


And we found this waffle/pancake place which was kinda like a sports bar cause they had tvs and stuff and they didn't care that we smoked in there. So we were blazing and then pigging out on amazing food and then blazing some more and watching tv and stuff



Just make sure you have $ to spend.

thanks for all the amazing info, ive got multiple G's stashed for "amsterdam fun" so hopefully that wont be an issue! after reading all this im getting REALLY pumped!!!

Oh, we also went to a live sex show with different acts performing

When you are walking, watch out for those trams, they circulate like cars and i saw at least 4 people almost get it as well as almost 2 collisions with cars. It's a nice and easy way to get around town though so use it but don't get hit by it lol.

Lastly, if you can, don't go during winter, it's pretty cold and rainy.
