School me on time lapse.

Looking to do a time lapse set up for the upcoming sonic meet... dont know much about how it work with DSLRs and such.. is there a mode to do this or do you just have to go over to the camera every so often and take the picture?

you can hook the dslr up to a computer with the usb cord. i know canon's come with software that you can do this on. you get to pick how many shots, exposure, all that, etc and can choose how many pics or how long you want to do pics

You can do this with a DSLR and a laptop (Will be a pain making sure the laptop stays alive for the duration of the event without a power supply). You can also do it with some point and shoot cameras that come with the option (I believe all the Nikon Coolpix have timelapse). Or if you leave a tripod set up in the location you can just try to come by in even intervals and take a snap from there.

i think the latter option would work best. theres no way i could have the laptop turned on that long out there.

I know on all the Nikon DSLR's since the D200 they have a built in intervalometer that you can set to take "X" amount photo's for "X" amount of time every "X" amount of seconds

Not sure if what you're going to be using has that function though

damnit! I was going to do this at sonic, and put a small movie together. Just stand over the parking lot (I remember seeing a hill) and get all the cars rolling in, I was going to use my wireless remote, but may just go the route that ChrisPA said and set the camera up to take pictures every so often.

I know one of the Pentax cameras has an intervalometer, don't know if the k200 does. If it does, it couldn't be easier. Just put it on a tripod, set the intervalometer, and either stay next to the camera or bring a guard dog so it doesn't get stolen...

If it doesn't have one, you can either just sit there and fire a shot off every five seconds or get a remote trigger and keep hitting it, haha. Not that much fun. Definitely use a sturdy tripod whatever you end up doing.
