STI Drivetrain swap double check

Hey guys after last sundays bully-vard cruise my clutch unfortunatly took a dump. I have done all my research and decided to do a USDM STI 6-speed swap into my 06wrx. I know everyone is going to tell me to use the search button, which i have done. All i am looking to do is get a double check from a couple people that have done it before dropping some serious coin on parts. I am on a limited budget and will be selling my (still in one peice) 5spd setup to offset the cost. The parts list is as follows

Car = 2006 WRX Conservative at 340whp (will one day upgrade to gt35r)

Parts List

-07 STI 6speed with 3:90 Final Drive 1:1:1 Center Diff
-06 R180 3:54 Limited slip Rear diff
-06 Sti Driveshaft (scored on ebay $25 Shipped)
-STI Shift Linkage
-DCCD Controller from DCCDpro.com
-ACT Flywheel
-ACT 6-puck clutch

Please feel free to leave corrective comments if needed. Anybody on here do the swap? Any tips/tricks on installs? Thanks for the help guys.

the 6 puck isnt needed, and if you drive it everyday you may want to look into something a little less agressive.

Have you toured Unabomber's FAQ on NASIOC? That might be very helpful to you if you haven't already:

u def don't need the 6 puck. Go with the act street performance clutch. It handles like 515ft/lbs. It behaves much like the stock clutch. Just a little heavier pedal.

Thanks for the comments, i wasent sure if the street disc would be enough i would like to do it only once. My understanding is the factory wrx axles would work...? I dont want to change the hubs/brakes i just finished doing rotors and pads. for parts i forgot to mention clutch fork and mount.

Well the ur real question for buying ur clutch needs to be 'how much are u looking to do to ur wrx?' If ur goin much over 400awhp, then u deff want a racing clutch, but for anything under that much roughly, the Street clutch should be fine. Its much more drivable too. Theres no smoothness in a racing clutch. If the wrx is ur main street car, i dont recommend the 6 Puck

You can use your front axles but not the rears, If you still wanted to use the r180, The Drive Shaft Shop makes axles to go front r180 diff to r160 hubs so you dont have to change anything. However they are a real pita to clip into the rear diff, get out the big hammer for that job, or the air hammer.

Its looking like alot of work to go through that conversion (and coin) to do it right. Might just spring for the PPG syncro straight cuts and a clutch and keep on keepin on.

Thats why I'm going with the helicals instead of a 6mt. Too much sourcing. Andrewtech has it all right there.

yessir i made a couple calls & E_mails andrewtech is def the place to go, sounded very prompt, professional & has great reviews. I have even heard of a couple people saying they rebuilt the tranny while they waited in one day. Other shops i was calling, getting no call backs or uhh bring the car in lines. Car still drives like a normal car fine, once the wastegate opens it wont hold in any gear. I have a DD so with a little saving i may be ready to make a move early summer.

I'll try to answer the ones I can or ones I see. If I miss any just post the ones I missed and I will help.

1. The 06 r180 is NOT 3.54, it's 3.90 like all other previous year sti's. The only rear you can use with your 07 sti 6mt is your stock rear OR get an 07 sti rear. You also would either need the full rear-end including hubs, sways, rear, brembos, etc. However! and a HUGE however....You would then need to source 04 sti hubs to keep your 5x100, otherwise you need new suspension and new wheels. Eeeeeek! The other route would be the axles Jodie was talking about and they're $1,200 alone. Also if you go that route with your stock rear, the sti driveshaft WILL work, just would need the holes notched out in the rear yoke, or you could get a sti rear yoke to make it cleaner.

2. You could run the act 6-puck, just make sure it's sprung. You're at 340whp now so im sure you will even upgrade in the future now that you have an almost bulletproof trans. Buy once, not twice. Make sure it's sprung, though! If you opted out, get the act HD 2100 with street disc. That's a bad bitch and feels like a mustang clutch. Super stiff and I loved driving on it every second.

3. Definately get the spiider dccd, ****ing ridiculous. He now has the oem style one, utalizing the oem dccd roller knob and it's fully automatic and manual if need be, just like oem sti's. The one I had was one of the first batches he made and it was straight manual. Still loved it, although they're much more advanced now.

I think that's all I see, post up if you have any other questions. Don't buy just yet, you have some things to go over first.

Sorry, but the rear diff in an 06 STI (r180) is a 3.54. I'm 120% positive.

Yeah, you're totally right. I have no idea what I was thinking. 05 however is 3.90...
