Car Forum Posters

Saw this on another forum. figured I'd share.

Over the years I have noticed a few stereotypes with 'car forum' people, and feel obliged to point them out. With diagrams of course.

1. The internet know it all
This kind of person thoroughly researches valve diameters, cambelt widths, piston sizes, car frame numbers, all sorts of
seemingly trivial information, primarily for the sake of answering other peoples questions on the internet.
Some are shining beacons of godly knowledge, others regurgitate thoroughly wrong information that perpetuates itself on the internet. Do not be overly surprised if this type of person, despite having intricate knowledge of the factory flaw in the float bowls of a 1927 Ford Roadster, and the 26 step procedure on how to rectify this, does not actually know how to work on a car at all.... May not actually be human

1.5 The internet know nothing
This person doesnt know nothing... Just nothing relevant to arguing on the internet about cars. All this person knows, and needs to know, is that they enjoy driving them, and they're never going to know or care enough to qualify as an 'internet know it all', so dont bother trying to take part in the pissing contests.
These people generally lurk in the background watching the carnage unfold from afar, or contribute in general or offtopic conversations in a highly amusing manner, to earn their keep as good as any.

3. The 'I actually do work on my car instead of talking crap on the internet' type.
These type of people are generally good value, although they dont post often.
Usually posting along the lines of 'Hey, I've finished building *another* car and it's for sale, here are the specs'

4. The project thread whore
Expect to find meticulously and overly thoroughly updated project thread with every inane detail, and every little bit of progress on their car.
Also expect to see this project listed on every website known to man...

5. the 'Ill ask for advice, get stupidly good advice, do what I originally planned to do anyway' type.
Frustratingly self explanatory, if you've ever come across this. The inevitable "I told you so" is never as satisfying as you'd think.

6. The 'Im going to do XYZ mods to my car and it's gonna be way better than your POS' type
This type of person generally dishes out mildly condescending remarks to people who actually have realistic project goals,
(AKA cars that actually go) on account of a mega car build that they 'are going to do' which is obviously massively outside
of their budget and skill set.
Project inevitably fizzles out and gets sold as a useless hacked up rolling body, or just ends up with the usual raft of
useless mods such as pod filters and turbo timers and seat covers. This type of person is generally on the younger side of
things.

7. The repco catalogue whore
This person has every conceivable non mod that a car could possibly have, generally entirely from the repco catalogue.
Playboy seat covers, seat belt covers, aftermarket steering wheel and gear knob, foot pedal covers, floor mats, LED washer nozzles, bolt on chrome exhaust tip covers, pod filters, aftermarket hubcaps, the list goes on... Yet not a single modification that actually acheives a tangible... anything. Also expect this person to have removed every piece of interior trim that is able to be pried off with a screw driver, and painted to a 'theme' to match the steering wheel etc.
Which are usually Painted 'ruin my resale red' or 'I cant believe it's not butterscotch' grey primer (work in progress)

8. The 'function over form' nazis
These people are the exact opposite of the repco catalogue whores.
These people that insist on that you're not allowed to do a single thing to your car that is not functional in making your
car go faster on a race track. Even if you're not planning on ever going to a race track, or dont want a fast car. Hell, you
could make a thread about getting your work van repainted on account of insurance from a crash, and they'll tell you to ask
the insurance company if you can just keep the damage, and use the $$$ to fit an LSD instead.
Expect this mentality to be annoyingly widespread on the internet, probably
to distance themselves as far as possible from the 'repco catalogue whore' culture. Known side effect: is equally as annoying.

9. The 'I hate flat peak caps, nissans, drifting, and other things which are currently popular' type
These types are like the annoying kids at school who listend to a type of music, then suddenly didnt anymore because
everyone else does. They claim to be doing their own thing and not one of the sheep.
Despite the fact that having your tastes diametrically opposed to pop culture means that you're as influenced by it as anyone else.
Expect derogatory remarks about how you're stupid and cliche, even though you're sleeping on piles of money with lots of beautiful women, while they're
raging on the internet about how their nissan sunny is the most underrated 3 door economy car from the march 1986 to January
1987 manufacturing period, and it deserves more respect.

10. The 'Wow check out my amazing knowledge about why your car sucks' whore
This type of person doesnt just like camaros, or nissans, or Fords, or cars from the 60s, or 90s.
Oooooh no. Having a 1962 Ford Mustang isnt enough, because it's not a 1964 mustang which had the twin doodackies and the
single pipe ram overflow buffer, and the superior longitudinal starboard outboard supporters.
Expect a "Yeah that car's okay I guess, but I would have gotten the 1964 model which had the..." when you post some details
of your car, no matter how impossibly cool it is.
