Flash Recommendation

so amongst many other things i am investing in the camera this summer, one is going to be a on camera flash.

the two i have come across are either the
580

or
ABR800

the abr is cheaper and would be dedicated as an on-camera flash.
if i were to get the 580, i could get a ringflash and get somewhat of the same effect. whilst still being able to use it as an off camera flash. The 580 is more expensive though

opinions?
thanks

The 430EXii is a much cheaper alternative to the 580. I have 2 of them and personally haven't ran into many situations where I need more output. But I don't use them for night photography.

ABR is not something you just carry around
Big, heavy, awkward, cheaply made and you need AC power

If you want a ringflash though, get the ABR
A 580 into a Rayflash or similar looses A LOT of power

Overall the 580 is more versatile
For for that one

so i guess i should figure out whether or not i would prefer a more versatile 580 with less ringpower or the less mobile abr.

hmmm

you wont be able to use the ring flash like you would a normal flash. the ring is more for portraits and such. plus unless you plan on using a billion mile extension cord, youll need a power pack. what do you plan on doing with a flash exactly?

examples
ringflash-

1 single flash-
walked around the car popping it off

off camera

on camera fill(ish)

i say go with the 430. it's a very good beginner flash and will be a good slave if you want to get the 580 down the road.
