Demo reel rough cut...

I didn't get around to doing anything I really wanted to today, so I ended up making my first "REAL" demo reel.

Here's a link to the video, it's not finished yet, and in fact all the clips used in this version are the raw footage. No color correction, no aspect matching, nadda. Just straight line up to so far see how it's going, but I figured I need SOMETHING out in the public, so here it is.

http://www.vimeo.com/2959961

Sad part is, it blows the demo reel I threw together for my Associate's portfolio review out of the water, and it's still in its infancy...

So feel free to comment if you want, but like I said, extreme work in progress.

You have a lot of work ahead of you. It just seems like a number of random shots slapped together.

You should really start using a tripod and remember to de-interlace your video next time you export for computer playback.

Its sweet, but just ends...and i know you said its just a rough cut, but what are you leading to in the video? Something Big? like the car or something else, aka what is the direction of the video.....

Once its clear what is the direction and what not it will be pretty cool, its sweet as of eiditing and video shoots though

Like I said, this was just to see how the composition lined up out on the web.

A lot of this footage was back when I only had my GS-500 plus a radioshack tripod, only the night time-lapse shots of the cars was done with my DVX on the manfrotto tripod.

Right now I have all the clips widescreen matched, with the de-interlace, but its ganna be a while before I can finish the other 1:50 of the song.

Actually you picked up its direction. This is just a demo reel to show off the editing and shot selection/composition. The rest of it is going to be filled out as the year goes on, this was just literally toss the clips to timeline, export to .mov, then upload to see how vimeo rapes it.

Demo Reel for editing and shot composition/selection, so there won't be a "story line" or anything.

Was deff hoping you would comment on this. You graduate soon don't you? Dunno how AiPhilly does it, but at AiPitt, in the portfolio class they say to base your reel depending on what you wanna show off.

Edition, do a video with nice edits and the like

Cinematography, do a video that shows your compositions and such.

But like I said, Philly probably does something different.

Cut your shot lengths waaaaay down and just throw more stuff in. Keep the vid short in general. I'll have my demo reel done by the end of the week and you can check it out.

I plan on it. I just don't have as much footage as I thought. This summer though I plan on changing that.

Probably, but like I said this was literally shot, timeline, export, upload. Something for me to look back on when its all polished up.

I need a break from editing, so here we go. Don't take it personally, not trying to be mean just teach you.

Horrible opening. Try to always cut on action...you delay several seconds on the upwards tilting on the first shot. The shot is shaky, slow, and its not demo reel worthy.

Second shot...you zoomed out in the middle of the shot... bad stuff. The shot is not aesthetically pleasing or interesting.

City shot is cool.

Shot of the people is uninteresting considering we can't hear them and I'm left wondering wtf is going on.

Sparkler shot, begin the shot on the action.

Second city shot..it's useless with the shake in the middle of it. Either group it with the other city shot or cut it.

Ammo shot, trim the beginning.

Start the gun shot right when the shells are revealed.

Two shots of the same scene with the two people? Why..it was bad the first time?

Sun in the car window, bad shot, cut it.

Group all the city shots together....

Shot of the car is too long and uninteresting.

Those same two kids AGAIN????

Another car shot which is bad, cut it it.

Video is about motion. Still shots should have enough motion or aesthetics to still appeal to the eye.

If you are going to keep doing nothing but stationary shots, for your own sake get a tripod or monopod.

Ken could have shot this.

Plan some shots, come back, and blow us away.

Haha what's funny is if you look at the timeline, nothing's the same anymore, I cut it down and went from that 1:40, to about 50 seconds, tops.

And to be honest I hate that first shot. The anamorphic was dirty and the lens flare picked it up so damn bad.

The whole reasoning was I took this quarter off and had yet to do anything with video, so while I was going through older tapes, I just made something out of it just to do SOMETHING.

A LOT...well, pretty much all of it, cept the time-lapse shots, is over 1.5 years old back when I was first starting.

But the city shots, what I'm trying to figure out...how in the hell did the shaking get there... Either I did bump the camera when I was checking the times, or that place is not as stable as I thought...but I REALLY doubt its the tripod...

But trust me, this whole thing is getting re-done. It was done just so I had something to do, but I really do need to get away from such long shots.

Old thread, new try.

Ditched all the old footage pretty much and gave another shot of it with more recent stuff. Again, no CC or anything. Just letterbox and de-interlace till summer comes and I can get some real meat on the bones.

http://www.vimeo.com/3290509

It's no where near as good as Spock's or Bsaint's, but then I don't nearly as many opportunities as them. Guess that means I have to work just that much harder, right?

First shot is too long. If the camera isn't pointed at something interesting, move the camera more.
