This guy won 8 ****ing gold medals in the olympics. He could kill a kitten a day and he'd still be a great role model.

Who the hell cares what he did out of the pool. He's a swimmer....if he was floating around on a raft smoking a bong in a pool then that might be a different story.

he doesnt kill kittens because mr vick was his rolemodel and well...

but on a serious note, people care what he does outside of the pool because he is famous and people look up to him. Im not famous, and nobody looks up to me(well, everyone does, but you'll only get this if you know me) so i could smoke 4 pounds of crack cocaine a day and nobody would give a ****, but, because being famous puts your whole life under a microscope people care. I dont care that he smokes marijuana, but he should be punished as such when he gets caught. He is an acting role model for young people, and its bad enough he already has a dui, but sponsors supporting him smoking reefer makes it look like the world supports illegal activity.

So, what did he get caught doing?..."smoking marijuana?" really?, ...he never admitted to anything other than saying he "engaged in activites that were regrettabe and demonstrated bad judgement", there is no proof of anything...thats a tobacco pipe for all the police or anyone know, which is why the police couldnt do **** as far as criminal charges...although they made a big fuss as if they were going to...hilarious.

though, I do agree with why kellogs would cancel a sponsorship...I think it may have been a little harsh, with lack of proof of anything.

Exactly..... I someone on the Internet had a picture of me holding a gun to someones head. That's not enough to prosecute for anything. Who says it wasn't a water gun? Who says I didn't know the person? Who says I wasn't playing paint-ball?

The fact of the matter is that Felps WAS NOT prosecuted for ANYTHING. There is NO PROOF.

There IS proof that he is an AWESOME ATHLETE.

Well because when you are an Olympic athlete or celebrity, you are above the law, duh. I mean, isn't that what role models are supposed to prove? If you become famous, you don't have to deal with repercussions of doing illegal things. It's perfect motivation to become your role model.

all of you forget he is just a person. its not really a big deal. if he smokes who gives a **** and if he doesnt then who gives a ****. doesnt it hurt you in any way? no. thats the problem with the world today, everyone has to bitch about something and look up to other people as role models. stop worrying about what other people ****ing do. if you dont want your kids to do it, then sit and talk to them. if they still do it big ****ing deal. they could be doing a lot worse.

yes but the parent should be the biggest role model.. and the people who are looking at phelps as a role model should not still look at him as a role model because he took one hit of a bong and the media got a hold of it.

Maybe Kellog's should have spun it in a positive light:

Phelps gets high, eats a ****load of Kornpops, then wins 8 olympic golds without breaking a sweat (not that you mortals could tell, because he was in a fuggin' pool), and still finds time to torque bowls with friends and family. What have you done with your life today?

Things like this make you realize that he's still just some kid with gills; he's going to make mistakes. Like Matt said, I'd be pissed at the kid that took the photo, why blow up his spot?

No I dont have kids, but If my kid is a swimmer, you better believe I would tell him to look up to Michael Phelps. I will worry about talking to my kid about drugs and Phelps' choice to smoke, and worry about being the most important role model.

i agree. when i have kids they can look up to him if they want. im not going to say no because he smokes weed. most of the people bitching about it probably go home and smoke too.
