google sketchup

anyone mess around w/ this free 3d modeling software from google?

dicking around right now, but i came up with a decent looking tire and rim after a few hours of learning the program a bit and then applying what i learned

I had to use this for a Business Plan Project in my 100 level business class....We needed to create a proto-type of our product/invention and I choose to use GoogleSketch

you can download templates online too, there is a mean WRX one somewhere i use to have....

you must've missed the dark grey for the rubber and the metallic skin on the rim itself...

cool, and free... and difficult to use

i imported a jpg of a "blueprint" of an srt-4 neon and its a pain in the ass to outline... i may give it a go with another vehicle w/ simpler lines

I don't have a use for 3d models at all... i just want to play with the software.

haha, not good at all... i watched some of the tutorials... need to watch more though... i'd love to do some decent work... i doubt this car will turn out well. I should watch the rest of the videos from google on the tools first...

I do agree half of the fun is making them yourself.

I do this everyday at work, using higher end software, I love the 3D warehouse. I can design/draft a car and go to the warehouse and get buildings and other various background models to make photo-realistic renderings and animations.

Plus, I think it's fun to take someone elses design and modify or improve it.

I remember getting a 0 for my 3D models when I was being critiqued freshman year in my design archy class. A lot of people hate on the program because it's simple to use compared to 3D Max and such and still looks good.

i remember being really good at autodesk inventor which is a 3d modeling program that is quite a bit more intense, but ive never used the googlesketch.
