So I just started a photography class that requires a 35mm SLR and I just bought a Canon XTi about 2 months ago which I can't use for the class. My question is would it be better to buy an older Canon SLR with a nice zoom lens so I can swap it into my XTi or should I just get a cheap SLR for the class and save up for the nice and newer lens?

i have my first photo class too and we need a 35mm slr. i bought a canon from chris (pa) for the class but its probably over kill for this basic class. everyone else in the class is using really old cameras since theyll all pretty much do the same thing. id say just ask family or friends if they have any old slr's laying around since no one uses film anymore and it should be perfect for the class

Unfortunately no one close to me has one to fit my needs. I have to buy so I'm trying to see if its worth getting a camera that I could use for the class and later use the lens with my DSLR.

Thanks but I would be looking for the EOS because they have the same mount as my current one.

I was looking more for peoples opinions on the situation...

i have the canon elan 7e. great camera and has tons of features plus EF lenses will fit onto it. haha i use my 85mm f1.2L on it

edit: i also have a rebel or rebel k2 or something like that if you would be interested in it. its at my shore house now but i'll be having my dad bring it home tomorrow. its an EOS so you can use the current lens line up you have

I currently have a kit 18-55 but its EF-S so it won't work on the older models from what I understand. But if you have a lens for any of the other let me know and how much for each. I'm looking for something with some more zoom that i can later use with the xti.
