Want a reliable, little battery. What should I go for?
What are my options for reliability and a small size?

Bill one of the magazines I have has a guide. If you want to go through that I can bring it to a meet or something. From what I was reading though Braille offers the smallest but the ca and cca are lower than most others. I think Optimas are smaller as well and they have the red top which would be perfect for the car since its a black/greyish with the red top obviously. It would go well with your theme.

with the really small ones you may run into starting issues because they just dont produce the power you need on colder mornings.
fwiw, ive had a red top in my car since day one. zero issues. |

I am most definitely a fan of Optima. I have been using them for years. Best I had was a Yellow top in a truck that was in there for 8 years. It survived a car accident and went into a another truck. Have used red tops in other cars and will have one in my STi soon. |

AFAIK, Optima does not meet the requirements of being smaller than stock, which is the reason behind the switch.
I've had this convo with Bill, but for anyone elses info, the Braille battery is the EXACT SAME THING as the Deka ETX14L. Same battery, made by the same company (East Penn), just relabelled. Braille overrates their batteries and Deka underrates their batteries so the CCA on the Braille is claimed higher, but its not. So if you havent picked up on it yet, I think it would be silly for anyone to buy a Braille when Deka is readily available. They make the Braille sized battery as well as a half dozen others which go up in size to meet your needs. I went with an ETX18L for the Supra... its a good balance between size and power for me. Here's a link to the cheapest place I found which stocks all of them... http://www.tristatebattery.com/index...Path=36_96_235

I just installed (today) the AMS 15lb battery kit. I will post pics soon, came with hold down kit & rubber isolation pad. It left me a TON of room in the engine bay. 680Cold cranking amps will be plenty. All other batterys/kits were lower and amperge and heard of cold starting issues. I believe the Factory battery is only 300ish? Dont quote me on that. Kit cost about $150(paid less with coupons & Ebay coin), was at my door in less than 3 days from maperformance.com

I got the same AMS kit on my STi. Cold starts take longer, but so far its turned over. This Friday will be the real test and I'm kind of nervous about it since temps are supposed to be in the single digits.

I ordered the same battery that bryan has for his supra. It seemed to be the best bang for the buck. thanks for the input guys.

My obligatory braille battery, and custom mount.
![]() You might want to look into a trickle charger/battery tender....

I've never had a problem with my odyssey, which looks to be the same exact thing as the AMS battery

My Odyssey battery was fine when I drove it on a daily basis. Once I bought a second car and let the GSX sit in the cold for a couple days at a time, it quickly died after that. I was jump starting my car every time I drove it until it got to the point that it wouldn't hold a charge at all after a year. I switched to a bigger battery after that.
