As far as I understand the law reguarding active jammers, I think only radar jamming is illegal under FCC regulations. I don't believe there is any regulation against the actively jamming of Laser signals though. There are 2 ways to jam/defeat a radar/laser device, passive and active. Passive would be coating your car in some sort of film, for example, that did not reflect enough of the radar/laser signal back to the gun to get a reading. I believe this is legal. Active jamming would inolve the emiting of false radar/laser signal from the auto with the purpose of interfering with the operation of the laser/radar gun. This is illegal with respect to radar, but not laser I believe.

Lidatek's anti laser is an active system, and from I know, totaly legal. But again, I could be confused.

In any reguard, if your hit with a laser gun, detector or not, your toast without anti laser measures.

Also, placement on windshield is a debated subject. Some say high as possible to get the best radar range, while others say as low as possible to get best laser range, being that they usually aim the laser at your front plate or headlights to get the best reflection back to gun.

you're on the money regarding federal laws since the FCC does not regulate light emission but you need a license to produce and sell a product that emit radio waves.

beware that some local governments and states have outlawed laser jammers, I'm sure VA and DC are on that list of states/territories.

v1 here and i love it.. as for laser and radar jammers.. you guys knows those garage door openers that you just get within range of and they open your door? mount that in your grill and that jams the signal.... they wont be arould for long as they are illegal.. but you buy them this way the "legal " way

my v1 is great and saved me a ton.

over the summer i did a radar test, we have a radar gun, and did the test with tint, without tint, under the rear view mirror and above... the tint strip that is stock on the STi at least blocked the range about 100 yards, so i keep my detector low, the tint in the back i have a less metalic blend and no reflection.. so minimal tint in the back did not hurt my range badly.

I've used a Cobra for the last two years and have had nothing but good luck with it.

One thing that does supposedly throw radar guns for a loop is sticking tinfoil under your hubcap. I've never tried it but ive heard it does wonders.

Barry, this is what I was trying to say about mounting your radar a little lower. It was just a guess really, but thanks to Adam, there is proof now....

Also, no reason sticking foil or whatever under your hubcap is going to work. You have to understand how radar guns work but think of it as like a sharp focused stereo speaker that is bouncing noise (waves) off your car. How is foil going to foil it, lol.

I read if you wrap your car in tin foil and place it on a conveyor belt moving in the opposite direction, your car will have no forward motion to produce an accurate reading.

And it won't take off.

haha, I don't think so. Although tin foil all over the car might help defeat laser. It has to be all crumpled up though with no flat surfaces.

I think no matter what some of the waves will get back to the gun. And i don't believ anything adam says lol. Either way i get fine reception forward.

This is a hugh problem with detectors at first. You feel invinceable. You're not.
The detector only gives advanced warning of a radar source. Assuming ideal conditions, you only have a small amount of time to SLOW DOWN.
You really have to learm how to use one properly.
I know I did.

Just a general true statement for all who purchase one this holiday season.

Even stealth planes have a radar cross signal it's just redused to the size of a large bird.

+2

Although the V1 has saved me from quite a few tickets already I have a buddy who bought one cause it got so many rave reviews from a thread similar to this. He got a ticket the first day he put it in his car and sold it by the end of the week. He said the detector never even went off.

Now I don't know the exact details of this story but I do know he is the type of person that thought doing 100+ on the highway, weaving in and out of traffic was fun. Needless to say, you still need to be careful out there. Cops have a couple tricks up their sleeves. I'm just happy enough to take a couple of those advantages away, lol.

I did get pulled over in NY though while following a buddy of mine with a V1 (before I got one of my own). Actually, we were in the back of a group of cars doing about ~75ish when a cop coming the other way of a 6 lane highway pulls a hard uturn to give me a ticket for 85. The radar detector never went off and the cop checked radar on the ticket. It's a much longer story than that but the moral of the story is if you piss off enough of them they will radio ahead and nothing is going to save you from getting a ticket, especially if your stuck on the same road for 50-60 miles, lol.

I have a similar story also.
But the moral is, cops aren't dumb. They know the likes of the V1's are out there, and they know how to use the radar guns to minimize your advantage.

I have a Whistler 3450 with a remote head unit.

I love the fact that it's so well hidden. The sensor is behind the grill, and I put the remote in my clock pod.

Works well too. Saved my ass a few times too.

I heart my V1... hasn't let me down yet... but from what I hear and read the escort 8500 is cool too.

It's like how C&D says though, once you live with the arrows there is no turning back... the arrows are the ****
