Anybody have Collectible or Classic registration?

I've been thinking about switching the registration to Collectible or in a year from now Classic for my SS. The main benefit is no emissions but I don't put enough miles on it to need to pass anyways, one less sticker on the windshield is a good thing. I know you also need to show it's not your daily driver, which it isn't so no big deal there. Any downsides to doing this? The only trade off I can think of is then I'll lose my "350 INCH" vanity plate, but I could always move that to my Buick with a 350.

Honestly its not even worth it, we had classic tags on our 66' stang and had them changed back there was a loop hole about the car being out after a certain time and all this weird stuff. And we were driving the car alot, just unhooked the speedo haha

If you have classic, Do you even need to have it inspected at all? My had has a collection of 8 classics and they are all tagged accordingly. The older purple tags were nice, now they're ugly. Also, as long as you aren't driving it too much and adhering to the curfew, I'm pretty sure you can get insurance really cheaply.

Classic still has safety inspection, antique has no inspection but you can't drive after dark. I don't believe classic has a curfew or mileage restriction other than you're technically not supposed to drive it to work or more than 1 day a week, I don't think they could really call you out on that unless a cop watched you drive the car 5 days a week to work and actually cared.

it could be almost considered insurance fraud, because your paying a lesser amount for a car that is supposed to be driven less with restrictions that are being broken....idk something to consider...hell i just thought about it

i have it on the mustang.... it's not too bad, only supposed to go to shows etc. you have to send in pics of the car aswell just to be sure its not a race car they are insuring. believe it had to be kept under 5k miles aswell.

Are you not allowed to race the car if you have either registration? That would be an issue cause I go to the track several times a year. The under 5K miles is no issue either.

I think that you can race the car, just have to make it look like it isn't one which yours really isn't. My dad and I were going to do that with my camaro, just take the Prostars off and put on some IROC wheels to get classic tags. It is more of a race car than a street car.

if your sole purpose for getting Classic tags is the insurance than why not just look for cheaper insurance?? look up Grundy insurance. they insure every kind of car you can think of with only a few limitations, one being you need to have it garaged. you dont need classic or antique tags, you can drive as often as you want. you set your own value and they'll honor it or come to an agreeable amount. its your best bet cause if you get into an accident during the week with classic tags, your insurance company will bounce the claim cause your only supposed to be driving it to carshows and stuff. just a heads up. Grundy is cheap...setting the value of my Twinturbo T/A at 35k i pay $395 a year for coverage.

The only issue with going with Grundy, Sneed or Hagerty etc, any sort of collectors insurance is that I'm not 25, I don't think I can get collectors insurance til then. I know they all cover my car. Four more years!
