Breakdown of an "oops".

Just a little photo tutorial on the simple act of tapping a curb, thanks to me.

I was out in the snow with some other TST'ers last night. Unfortunately I was on the stock RE92's. Not that they are to blame, but come on Subaru, this is a rally bred car. Camry's come with RE92's. Yeah, Camry's. I got a little overzealous coming into a turn and the front end washed out on me, I pushed into a curb. Not super hard, but hard enough for the inherent design of Subaru's control arm to make itself evident. I'll show you.
I started with this:

Then tagged the curb:

The steering wheel shot is me going STRAIGHT down the road. Yeah, I b0rked it good.

Here's why:

You can see where the paint cracked due to it bending at this point.

Here is how the design comes into play:

There was another run in with the curb(or 2 ) and it had a destinctly different outcome. The other car that tapped the curb had STi aluminum control arms. These are designed to hold up a little better than the stamped steel stock WRX/RS ones. This WRX owner suffered a bent wheel, but no suspension damage(that we are aware of).

Sorry to hear about your incident Mike. Seems curbs are popping up all over the place lately. Did you guys check Axel's video of him plowing right into a curb. Was your incident at all similar....

Very similar. Just got the car moving too fast and couldn't get the front to turn. It's a sickening feeling knowing you are about to break something.

PS, I thought Bryan got it on film, but apparently he had shut off the camera mere seconds before I hit.
Ivan's mark is about 10 feet behind mine where he hit.

I use to hit curbs sideways a lot back in the day. Now a days I try to flip the steering wheel over quick last minute and just roll over it. You'll get the hang of it. Trust me, it just takes a little practice.... j/k.

I tagged a curb pretty hard in the STi and didn't bend a thing, trashed the rim. I bent the rim so bad in was hitting the brembo caliper. Put a new rim on there it was fine, took it to the dealer and they couldn't find anything wrong either.

I am hoping my wheel bearing survived the impact. There was noise on the way home, but it could have been the 20 degrees of positive toe.

So out of the 8 or 9 of us that were there, there were three that took the curb. That's not a good start, since Matt was the only one who messed up his car last snow season.

Note to TST: No more drifting in narrow lots.
