Who still has summer tires on?

i realized a few nights ago that some people dont worry all that much about taking their summer rubber out into the snow. seemed like a kind of "oh well i'll just be real careful and be fine" kind of thing. i'm just wondering how many out there are really doing this.
i'll say it now and i'll only say it once... i've heard of more intelligent things in my day. but anyways i wont harp on you anymore, just curious to see how widespread this practice is...

snow tires are overrated if you want to go play in 1 or 2 inches of snow yeah! i was wishing for way less traction out there. when we were on street road i was outlaunching and outbraking barry by buslengths though... haha.

I got all seasons installed on Sunday after it snowed. The trek to Pep Boys was made on my summer tires. I'm glad the roads were not covered at least.

Me, but not like it matters. They're supposed to be AWP, but snow ratings are below most AWP tires....

They go in straight lines fine. Turning, however, sucks the big one.

driving on summer tires in winter conditions, even w/o snow on the ground is not the wisest choice you can make. the biggest issue is the fact that summer compounds are not designed to operate properly when the temps drop below 50 or so degrees, so you will have increased stopping distances, loss of traction at times you don't expect (even when the ground is dry) and just overall poor performance

if you enjoy your car there is no cheaper insurance in the winter time than buying a decent set of all season tires and saving the sticky summer tires for when it gets warm out again (unless of course you own a beater car)

okay i've said my piece

Late,
Daniel

P.S. I'm running the Falken Ziex ZE 512s on my 33 during the winter time

Besides the PS,

Summer tires loose tons of grip and wear much, much faster (and tend to chunk) in cold weather.

Same. I have an extra set of rims, but no extra tires.

And how are they in the snow? Guess you'll find out.

The wrx runs Yokahama prada spec II's all year round. I figure it will see the road when its dry rather than snow. Now my hyundai elantra on the other hand is equipped with some snow tires, since thats my vehicle of choice to go play in the snow, the wrx usually stays home. She doesnt like to come out and play in the snow.

I just switched from my Nitto summer tires to my stock all season bridgestone RE92s. they suck in the snow but they are manageable as long as im careful. and to tell u the truth, i would rather be running on the stock wheels and tires than risk damaging one of my good wheels or having the wrong tire compound for the season.

Who remembers last winter when i hit the snow running my bald falken azenis?!?!?!

I learned my lesson.

The DSM and Pilot have all-season tires. Who needs grippy tires when you got AWD....

Although I do wish I could put drag radials on the GSX one day and not have to worry about destroying something.

I'll never run summers in the winter again. AWD, FWD, RWD, it doesn't matter, summer tires and cold weather can be a more costly situation than buying 4 new snow tires.

First year w/AWD and the Michelin Pilot Alpin's. Bring on the snow, I'm ready.
