Among other things haha.

But seriously. I got my dog from a pet store because he was almost 8 months old and marked down to $200 from $900. They were going to have him put down if someone didn't buy him soon, so I was told.

Well, they clearly abused him/mistreated him. He had serious issues with his crate. He would snarl and bit at you while trying to close it. I had a very hard time housebreaking him. He would randomly start freaking out (snapping, yipping, screaming) if you startled him or tried to repremand him for doing something wrong. And let me be very clear that I do not beat my animals, so this was not warranted. He still will randomly freak out on Keith. I think that he has serious psychological issues. The vet also told me that since he was so old when I got him and lived in the cage by himself for so long he didn't get the core socialization that puppies need.

Genetic health is a good point. I guess I never thought about it cause in the case of my dog (I got her when she was 8 weeks old), she's never had a single health problem. Well, except for the time when my mom left her alone with a bag of caramel lollipops and she ate the whole damn thing -- she couldn't **** straight for a week afterwards, hahahaha.

Jeebus, that's horrible. Did you ever report the pet store or anything?

But getting a pup/dog from a quality animal shelter can sometimes be even better than going to a pet shop. It really all depends on what kind of people are running the joint -- either the store or the shelter.

Fun thing. That pet store closed not long after I got him, so I'm sure someone reported them. I researched the "breeder" he came from also, because I didn't think that he is the breed that the store said he was, and everything that came up was reports of it being a puppy mill.

I'm not saying that shelters aren't good places though, because the reason that they are there to begin with is for the love of animals. I just don't know that I personally could ever get a dog from a shelter, after experiencing what I've experienced.

I think that you are a great person for adopting, and anyone else who has is too.

I will never pay for a dog. We got our dog for free on Superbowl Sunday 9 years ago and she has been the best dog we've ever had. Happy as hell, loves to play, and always finds a reason to wag her tail.

We picked up a cat from the shelter. Took him 2 years to finally walk around upstairs without being bothered by the dog, but he's doing ok now.

my dog, came from a shelter...

he's awesome, but a pain at the same time...but only because he's getting old now and can't hold it in for the 8 hours we're at work, he's also deathly afraid of thunderstorms, he must've been traumatized by one before we got him.

we've got two cats, one we took in from a co-worker that had kittens and needed a place to go with them, he's a great cat...

the other was a stray we noticed hanging around our neighborhood. we took him to the vet had him checked, fixed etc. and brought him inside. that was a bad choice, he's a mess...won't use his litterbox and such but we're too kind hearted to get rid of him.

dont get a husky unless youve got a huge yard or willing to take a lot of long walks.......i have 2, the female is pretty laid back but the male....jesus christ, i think he could run the iditarod and still want to run more.....he has a veeeerrrrrry high prey drive too, cats, bunnies, squirrels, birds, ducks, mice, groundhogs, a fox....hes killed them all, and tackled a deer that couldnt figure out how to get out of the yard quick enough.......most people just arent prepared to deal with that kind of stuff and just get husky's bc the puppies are so cute, so they end up in rescues

Very good advice. I have a saint bernard. She's a complete pain in the ass. The most ignorant dog in the world.

Nothing like comming home at 2am and finding ur 160lb dog upside down, snoring in ur bed. And she KNOWS she's not allowed in my room.
