thinking of building a turbo

well after i have my suspension and rims on, i am thinking of doing a custom turbo setup because its cheaper and more power can be attained. Anyway I am just learning about how to build a turbo piece by piece. So what do you guys think?

Igo4BMX knows a lot about turbo-ing a honda. Greddy2000Civic is in the middle of doing one on his car. These guys know a lot about it already and I'm sure would be a great resource for you.

You're better off doing a full pre-fab turbo kit than a kit that is pieced together.

i beg to differ that edlebrock kit is about 3 or 4 g's to by and top power you can put out with that is only a lil over 200. the kid that came to the meet with that kit on his car was guessing sumwhere arround 170-180 whp tops right now. i went for a ride in it i like it but its not the fastest civic ive been in. anyway greddy has 60% of his kit peiced together and has spent less then 400 bucks. and on a prefabbed kit your still recomended to get a custom tune for safety. so i think i prove my point...

To make a true, powerful turbo kit, will cost just as much as buying a decent pre-fabbed kit.

You don't see 400whp Hondas running homemade HF manifolds or cheap log styles. Any homemade kit will need tuning also.

If you want to save money, check out all over Honda-tech. Guys are always selling kits, or at least manifolds and turbos.

LSHatch makes a good point. Back when turbo honda kits were first coming out it made sense to go with pre-fab kits cause there were certain parts that were just hard to find or have made if not worthwhile.

Now a days there are tons of used parts floating around so that piecing a kit together for a fraction of the cost is just about doing a little research and looking.

yea

Yea a custom turbo kit pieced together most of time costs under $1,000 and performs better than some kits like the edelbrock, should start buyying parts in summertime after suspension and rims are on
