Ok, my friend has a 2000 Honda Civic, and her car wouldnt start with a jump the other day. She took it to the stealer, and they want to charge her $681 to replace the distributor cap and rotor. I looked up the price of the parts on autopartswarehouse.com, and they are no more than $20-$35 for each part. That would mean over $600 in labor charges?? I've never owned a car with a distributor cap before, but I know it can't be that hard to replace. I know some of you have replaced yours before, so how hard is it to do, and how much should she expect to pay for that work?

if its just those 2 parts than its 4 screws on the cap and one on the rotor. both easily accessible and done in less than 10mins. I would go get the parts yourself, no more than $20 and see if you can fix it first.

yeah thats very easy.... now if its need a distributor thats a whole different ball game

i figured.. well i dont know if she'd feel comfortable with me working on her car... i've never even touched a civic before.. lol

i'm fairly sure she said it's a distributor cap... i looked up the price of the distribtor, and i see they can run over $200.. but what would be the different ball game in replacing the distributor though?

replacing a distributor is pretty much the same. 3 bolts, plug connectors and have a timing gun handy. another 10min job. thats an ok price if its oem/new distributor.

so $681 is too much to replace a distributor, distributor cap, and rotor?

man thats a rip off.... just get a distibutor from AL's auto. They are like 100 bucks. New cap and rotor are another 50. then take 30 minutes out of your day to switch it over... its really easy.
