Yes it does, google it. Im really pissed about that too since only universities are buying them for research. I say they should put them into production so the cost can get down low.(haha). seriously though, i want one so bad i wouldnt mind paying a couple hundred.

It's a handcrafted robot, that's why it's so expensive. It's also, as said before, made only for research between human and robot interactions for research institutes. Plasma TVs were also, at one time, this price because of the exclusivity and limited production.

i saw that on some TV show not too long ago. some group of researchers were using it to work with autistic children. it has pinhole cameras in its eyes and they were studying how the kid would interact with the robot's ultra-friendly shape and most basic responses to human movement and emotions expressed through sound. i guess the autistic kids would really open up and make some progress using this thing.
that's something i'd pay $1mil for if it helped even a little bit.
