Nesh Football Game C&C

Few weeks ago I went to my old high school for a football game. First time I tried this so go gentle on me. I actually went to see what my camera could do at high ISO. They don't look grainy that much to me. But if you look you can see the grain in some of the photos. Photos are pretty much straight from the camera. Used some slight levels and contrast curves and a unsharp mask after the resize. No noise editing.

Last photo the kids where bugging me for a photo of them. Since my cousin knew them I took a quick snap, what ever

Not bad for a first time

You either need a longer lens or to get closer to the action
The crops are a little loose

Overall not bad though

I would of liked to have gotten onto the field but you need a press pass, and well I don't have one so the stands and right below the stands is what I was left with to shoot from. I was shooting with a 70-200 which worked out well I think when the action was close to me.

Iso was right around 2000 for all the photos, shooting around 1/250th which I found out wasn't fast enough for most of shots. Oh well it was a good learning experience.

I agree. For sports shots, generally you want a close crop, but you did the best with what you had. Try contacting the AD and see if they'll give you a pass next time. I am sure if you explain you are an Am but would let them use whatever shots they would be more than happy to let you on the field.

yup thats the only thing i would say... exposure and sharpness looks good, but just getting in a lot tighter is the only thing really. try to talk to some people about getting a press pass. if you do it ahead of time and you're genuine you'd be surprised how far that can get you sometimes.
