DSLRs are a lot of fun compared to point-and-shoots like you've had before.
I'm just a few weeks in with my Nikon D40, and wow, you can really do a lot to make something look good or bad just be changing a few things around. Since I started shooting with mine, I've already put about 2k shots on it in that short time! Wow, HD space really does fill up quick. I need to get myself a DVD burner soon. I would suggest picking up a book on the basics of the DSLR to start to master the settings if you haven't taken a course on photography in general before. Just understanding completely things like shutter speed, aperture, ISO and depth of field will help so much. I know reading the book I bought on DSLRs has helped me so much. Good luck and have fun!
