My friend did this in his VW ALOT actually. He tried explaining it to me or something talking about the car had to be at a certain RPM....I did it once in my car completely on accident. Cost me a clutch and a throw out bearing haha

You'd really have to know your car well. For example if I wanted to shift my Accord from 4th to 5th at 60mph, I would have to get it out of fourth(easy) and slide it into 5th slightly above 2500rpm.

i've done it a few times in my integra when i had it. its actually easy. the only thing i haven't mastered was the down shifting. i ruined a clutch doing that though lol.

Yeah, driving trucks like Macks, u barely ever use the clutch. Too time consuming and slows u down.

Its easy... just shift slowly with little force.

Just pop it out and let rpm drop slightly (to where it "should" be to catch next gear) while maintaining slight pressure. I did it a few times in my 1st car and never had problems. I found out about it by just seeing what would happen if I didnt use the clutch. Down shifting is a hole nother thing tho... its a bit trickier than going up and you are more likely to grind (at least thats what I remember).

i could do it in the evo all the time, its very simple. The speed of the trans and the speed of the engine have to be in harmony and it will work, everytime, no matter what gear. I think that is the point of syncros in the trans. I have downshifted once without the clutch by rev matching once, not in my car, but that was only once

It's easiest going from 3-4 gear, IMO.

Now if you're going to upshift, the RPMs need to be lower than highest point the previous gear was at, and vice versa for downshifting. While in neutral, rev the engine quickly and briefly and put slight pressure on the gear shift. When it kinda wiggles, it means the engine and the tranny are moving at the same speed and it is safe to shift. In fact, once you reach this point, the gear shift slips nicely into gear as the RPMs fall and you can accelerate/brake as you please. If you mistime it by a fraction of a second, you get horrible grinding noises that chew up the teeth on the gears/syncros and result in complete tranny rebuilds/replacements. (Racecars are built with different gearboxes that don't have syncros, so they can safely shift without the clutch)

... I mean, I've never done this before... hey, the car was on it's last leg! I've never done it in my current car though

Wow I'm surprised people have never tried this..

Used to do it all the time. Don't know why I haven't lately....

Once you shift out and the reves drop, you give the shifter a little pressure and when everything is lined up, you'll pop into the next gear.
