ok here's a start to my update... its exciting to me, haha.

this is what a stock supra steering wheel looks like

i am replacing it with a celica gt-s steering wheel. sure its -10 hp, but it looks a lot better so its all good. wanted something that didnt look like it was out of a minivan but still had an airbag. voila...

its a direct bolt on with an adapter harness which i already have. i can also hook up cruise control if i wanted, but i'm not putting the cruise box back into the engine bay so i dont really care.

ok now to give a proper update...

bay is painted... it looks good.

as i'm starting to put things back into the bay i realize how much more of a challenge it will be. the bay is perfect... its too nice. this means that any part i put back into the bay has to be on par with that or else it will look out of place.

i started to put in the brake booster and it looked fine before, but it looks like total ass now. i'm going to have to paint it. i'm going to need to use steel wool and/or metal polish on the ac lines, the abs unit needs some serious work... i'll probably end up painting it silver since it wont clean up and look new any other way.

these are just a few examples. i'm now realizing that putting used parts that look used back in is going to be a challenge so a lot of scrubbing, cleaning, and a good amt. of painting is going to take place as i very slowly put things back in the bay.

nonetheless.... big progress over the next 2 weeks... its go time.

some pics from yesterday...

lower manifold installed with injector bungs epoxied in and egr blockoff in place (diamond cover closest to the camera)

Fuel Injector Clinic fuel rail and injectors installed...

wiring mocked up... wow it doesnt look nearly as bad in this pic as it really is

turbo and exhaust manifold on the left, lower intake manifold, injectors, fuel rail on the right. wiring harness is laying over the engine while i try to figure out where the hell everything goes. i've got a lot to learn this week...

now i understand why a lot of guys leave the brake booster on and paint right over it...

its dusty already but looks pretty good in this shot...

again kinda dusty but cant hold the bling down

Looks good bryan, anything as far as a powder coated valve cover or you keeping the stock one for now? Just thought it would look fresher with everything new looking like your doing with everything else.

yeah i need to decide what i'm doing with that... i'd like to polish the turbo and intake manifold, and maybe the valvecovers too, and take the radiator cover and fan shroud to the bodyshop to have them painted the body color. i havent decided on what direction i want to go with that stuff but i'm definitely going to do something. i might do it now, or i might do it later though. definitely looks out of place as is but not a big deal to take care of down the road. i've got to put a lot of time or money into the polishing, whether i do it myself or have someone else do it, which is why its kinda on hold right now.

but this looks so pretty... it might be a winter project...

yo dude i havent talked to you in forever! did your car ever get back on the road or do you just keep digging deeper with it? yup as you can see things are underway with mine, hoping to make some real solid progress in the next couple of weeks and we'll see where we're at at that point. if you want to come check it out and/or lend a hand then that'd be awesome. think you'll have your car at the etown meet on oct. 25th? i'm hoping to have mine there but we'll see...

Well, I stop in to check the thread after 9 months and I am very surprised and impressed. Good work so far and good luck with the car!

I was hoping to see you driving this car quite some time ago, but I completely understand where you are at now.

I knew you would go single/fuel/ems- didn't I tell you that from day one ?

haha yeah not the originally intended route at all, huh? things just keep escalating, i have a bad habit of that. i can make a pretty big mess when you give me enough time. thanks for the compliments though, i'm doing what i can to do this car justice.

worked on it today with andrew (hockyplyer18) and will (sc300tt)... they were really helpful and guided me through the wiring harness so i know where most things go now. got hung up a little because the injector pigtails need to be soldered in before we can actually bolt the upper manifold on and we werent able to do that today, but thats about all thats left on the intake side.
i wont be installing exhaust manifold or turbo until the engine is in the car because i need to test fit the ewg and have a vband flange welded onto the manifold as well as an egt bung, then it will get ceramic coated.
planning to go back on monday with fred and take care of the injector pigtails and hopefully bolt the upper manifold on as well. trying to wrap up the motor and then move on to some stuff in the engine bay... and shortly we should be dropping the motor in . still a good amt of stuff to do before the car is driving... but trying to knock off big chunks at a time if i can here...

I'm gonna slap you! Haha stop saying stuff like this after my bay is already painted! I couldn't get a 5 min convo in with your dad before he painted it but now that its done you and him both are like 'oh we could have done this, we should have done that'... haha dude thats what I wanted to discuss BEFORE!

ok i'm done... rant off. seriously though. I wouldn't have wanted to go that crazy anyway... my bay looks good, just a little wetsanding, its all good. deep breath.

I'm hoping to go over there today with FRED and get the injector pigtails wired into the harness... Fred where are you? Pick up the phone...
Once the injector pigtails are on I will be bolting on the upper intake manifold and attaching all the wiring and hoses, and bam, thats it for the engine assembly.

Then I've got to clean up a lot of crap thats going back in the engine bay. I spent a while with steel wool on the AC lines yesterday and cleaned them up, I've got a lot of work to do with the ABS Unit cause it looks like total garbage, and then the brake booster, master cylinder, brake lines, clutch master, and laying the wiring back in the engine bay (temporarily).
Then there's really nothing else I could possibly do before the engine gets dropped in.

I think I've decided to take the safe, slightly longer road. Going to drop the engine in first, so it shouldnt require much wiggling and banging up of the fresh paint in the bay. Then we'll put the trans in from below after that.
